Hopefully, this will allow them to stave off austerity measures that are guaranteed to kill any chance of economic growth.

I'm not sure doom would be the word to use, it will become more of a welfare state, fewer will be contributors and more will be takers. That's just the way Socialism is, why work if the incentive is to have more taken and redistributed. It will just be one more insignificant country.

History PROVES that communism doesn't work. Socialism is one step away and has proven to be a failure as well.

Notice all the leftwing comments here. Proves that the Democrat party is the communist party.

It will likely save France from the severe austerity that is killing Greece, Spain, and has sent the UK into a double dip recession.

Whoever wins will still be beholden to the Bankers. So I doubt anything very radical will happen. In fact they are already announcing cutbacks or austerity. Yes, a socialist government announcing cutbacks.

Besides, France is so Socialist already that cutting back on a few social programs should be easy. If not for the newspapers they might not even notice. Or maybe they would since they pay for those government services that are being cut.

No the sky isn't going to fall because a party believing in social democracy(ie. European "socialism") is taking power in France. If anything Hollande has a much more realistic strategy with dealing with the Euro crisis. However, I'm wary of some of his domestic policies like the 75% top tax and reducing the retirement age but reality will force compromise and pragmatism. Regardless the French have a right to self-determination and governments similar to Hollende's have been able to create prosperity for their nations without ushering in eras of "doom".

The President is a member of the French Socialist party. That was a month ago. The parliamentary elections are now which the Parti socialiste is poised to win. It would be like the US voting for President and Congress one month apart.

I was there a couple of months ago (right before the election) and a lot of people I talked to were worried about this scenario. They were worried their government would make it to expensive to do business in France.
