History Lesson on Your Social Security Card Just in case some of you young whippersnappers (& some older ones) didn't know this. It's easy to check out, if you don't believe it. Be sure and show it to your family and friends. They need a little history lesson on what's what and it doesn't matter whether you are Democrat or Republican. Facts are Facts. Social Security Cards up until the 1980s expressly stated the number and card were not to be used for identification purposes. Since nearly everyone in the United States now has a number, it became convenient to use it anyway and the message, NOT FOR IDENTIFICATION, was removed. Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program. He promised: 1.) That participation in the Program would be Completely voluntary, No longer Voluntary 2.) That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual Incomes into the Program, Now 7.65% on the first $90,000 3.) That the money the participants elected to put into the Program would be deductible from their income for tax purposes each year, No longer tax deductible 4.) That the money the participants put into the independent 'Trust Fund' rather than into the general operating fund, and therefore, would only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other Government program, and, Under Johnson the money was moved to The General Fund and Spent 5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income. Under Clinton & Gore Up to 85% of your Social Security can be Taxed Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social Security check every month -- and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of the money we paid to the Federal government to 'put away' -- you may be interested in the following: ------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- ---- Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the independent 'Trust Fund' and put it into the general fund so that Congress could spend it? A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the democratically controlled House and Senate. ------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- -- Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding? A: The Democratic Party. ------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- ----- Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social Security annuities? A: The Democratic Party, with Al Gore casting the 'tie-breaking' deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice President of the US ------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- - Q: Which Political Party decided to start giving annuity payments to immigrants? AND MY FAVORITE: A: That's right! Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party. Immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65, began to receive Social Security payments! The Democratic Party gave these payments to them, even though they never paid a dime into it! ------------ -- ------------ --------- ----- ------------ --------- --------- Then, after violating the original contract (FICA), the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away! And the worst part about it is uninformed citizens believe it! If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe changes will evolve. Maybe not, some Democrats are awfully sure of what isn't so. But it's worth a try. Actions speak louder than bumper stickers.

And that is why Democrats scream when anyone suggesting getting rid of social security. It belongs to them. I would much rather put the money taken out of my paycheck into an IRA or some other investment, but no when President Bush suggested letting us decide if we wanted to put it in investments or social security the liberals had a hay day and yelled and screamed. I want the choice whether to give or not to give!!!!!!

Thanks for pointing out these things. Of course, if you invested all the money that you had to pay into Social Security, you could retire rather comfortably at age 65. Unfortunately, it's too late to rectify all the mistakes that the Democrats have made. I feel really sorry for those young folk just entering the labor force. They're going to get reamed.

The social security fund was supposed to be in a lock box. The lock box is now filled with IOU's and the government is being forced to come up with the funds to cover the ill spent SS funds and scream that SS is broke! My response is for the government to pay back the IOUs. They can move $100,000,000 when buying a vote SS and OBama can move 114 billion to the IMF without the consent of congress, but there is no money for SS. These are cases in point of how wasteful government actually is. It is time for America to take care of its citizens first instead of last. The winner of the who can spend the most trophy goes to Obama.

The intent of Social Security was to insure that people wouldn't be a burden to the Government in the future, well the future is here and the System became the burden, through mismanagement. FDR is rolling in his grave.

The ponzi scheme called Social Security is anything but what it implies! It is neither a social contract because you do not get to control the way your money is acted on. Nor are you guaranteed a dividend from those investments. It is nothing but another tax to be spent by the central gov't. There is no security either since you can be denied payments by the gov't for any reason! Nor can you bequeath the amount your contributions to your heirs!

The program wasn't origanally intended to be like that. Just as our political system has evolved for the worst, so has most of our country. Obama was asking for "Change", that what he was talking about, but obviously the Conservatives don't want it that way and have become the Party of Obstructionism.

    Any word or term with an "ism" can't be good. e.g. Conservatism: reluctant to accept change: in favor of preserving the status quo and traditional values and customs, and against abrupt change. (basically greedy, selfish, self serving) This goes against everything America stands for, and not something any self respecting person should support. Remember this;

"PROGRESS" is our most important product and set the standard for the world, until the reigns of this Government and the Republican Party fell into the hands of the cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men and enabled them subvert the power of the people, and to usurp for themselves the reins of government; destroying afterwards the very engines, which have lifted them to unjust dominion. That's what men like Papa Bush, Cheney and Rove did to this country. "Progress and the Progressive movement would have personally put them out of business.

SO, you've changed it into a child's game ? You've forgotten the "ism" that ran this country into the ditch. Cheneyism, Roveism and the "Big Daddy" of them all Bushism, Pappa Bush "bin Laden" and and his "cronies" have been running this country since Nixon made him CIA Director. That's pretty much like when the Nazi's made Hitler, Chancellor of Germany, he's been doing his "dirty work" in a much more subtle way. These are the people that are REALLY running this country. You really need a reality check.

SS has no money. It's part of the General Fund, and has been since the 70's. They drum up the fear to raise rates on everything, and increase their take on their end.

Yeah, sounds like Franklin. We love Franklin, and that is one reason why. When asked idf his programs during the Depression weren't Socialism he answered his Republican Detractors: "The American Worker dosen't know whether it is Fish nor Fowl, but they know it taste mighty good." FDR cared about the American People. His 2nd Bill of Economic and Social Rights need to be implemented now. taste fdr cared american people 2nd economic social rights implemented
By the way, all thee Nations in the world use a system of Social Security similar to America's except that in Europe under Socialist-Democratic countries the averge CEO/Owner makes 40 times more than the Workers. In America the average CEO/Owner makes 400 times more than the Average Worker. That, not the worker, or the Unions, is why America can no longer compete in the world.

You can sit a Democrat in a Social Security Office. Make him watch the transaction of a Social Security payment being handed over to someone that has paid NOTHING into the system and they would STILL deny that the transaction ever took place.

This information should be plastered ALL over the news. Every single American should be aware of this, but we ALL know the media will NEVER report this as worth while news.

You were never suppose to draw social security to begin with. The 65 age limit was set above the average life span of Americans at the time.

If you were black in 1935, you were only supposed to live to age 53.1 years.
  • tj Don Leuty 2010/11/01 12:42:01
    tj
What does being black have to do with it ;-)
  • Don Leuty tj 2010/11/01 18:34:50
    Don Leuty
If you were white, your were expected to live 59.7 years. That means the most likely to make it to 65 were little white grandmothers and spinsters. The party that the blacks population favors most selected an age made them most likely to never collect benefits. Franklin was not nearly as liberal as Eleanor.
  • tj Don Leuty 2010/11/02 12:04:54
    tj
Your logic doesn't add up. With your figures, 59.7 years for whites and 53.1 years for blacks. Both are well below 65.0years to collect. So why would you drag race into this. It gets a bit tiring watching some people trying to play the race card all the time.
  • Don Leuty tj 2010/11/03 04:44:50
    Don Leuty
The numbers are the numbers. Social Security was a Democratic program that the majority of Americans were not meant cash in.

Franklin D Roosevelt was a racist, as was Woodrow Wilson. The retirement age of 65 was selected to exclude almost all blacks. The most likely recipients of social security were white widows and spinsters. The retirement age in European national pension programs ranged from ages 50 to 55 at that time.

Only very few were supposed to ever draw social security. It was an election tool. Improvements in medicine and nutrition extended all our lives so that a baby born today can expect to live to almost 80. The majority of people born after 1950 will reach the age to receive benefits. Social security is reaching the point of no longer being sustainable...and nobody was really supposed to ever get it.
  • tj Don Leuty 2010/11/03 09:12:02
    tj
That is exactly what I mean so why drag race into it. The numbers are the numbers and few people were meant to receive SS.
Roosevelt, Wilson, the Democratic Party have been and still are the true racist in this country. Nothing new there.
I do agree (and love) your last line. Nobody was supposed to ever get it. SS was never more than a ponzi scheme that would have made Bernard Madoff proud. Yes, FDR and all the Democrats through the years have pulled the wool over the peoples' eyes to this day

Purely to demonstrate the blacks were not to be included in the program.

At that time, it was also inconceivable that the birth rate would decline. It was not a retirement account, it is a wealth redistribution pyramid. So much for government planning.

I know that the Internal Revenue Code was just a couple of pages added on to a lengthy tariff bill when it was introduced. It's backers told us that only a handful of wealthy would be impacted by it, and the amount taken would be quite small.

That's not how things worked out.

[...] How would you propose we pay for government. For instance, you got me, young and dumb to go to Vietnam, twice. I was damaged. Now I get retirement and VA Vietnam Era Disabilities. How would you pay what I earned? Oh, you wouldn't. I know, I heard it from Ron Paul, I got paid a salary while I was in Vietnam and knew what I was getting into. Right.
