Wow. The guy harnessed the eternal force of gravity. Whoopie.
I'd be more interested to see what the result would be had the chute not opened.
So we had this guy jump from 24 miles up, break the speed of sound; and nobody on SH is discussing it or did I just missed it?

That ground crew was something, wasn't it? Couldn't even get the wind direction right. Why didn't that bozo count down for him so he would know not to pull the rip cord until after he broke the freefall record?

He would also credit his perfect landing to his really strong leg muscles.
This is an incredible story. I watched this go down live on the internet stream. I was actually choked up when he landed, because I knew that I witnessed an absolute feat of human daring. The human spirit: to do something because it's there... that's what life is all about sometimes. What a view he got to enjoy!
As a side note, someone shot at a Democratic headquarters last week, but not a single story about that either on Sodahead... probably because most of the folks on this site think that person pulling the trigger is some kind of "patriot."

As for funding: This was a private venture done by a very successful company with a passion for such things.
They have been launching air balloons with fact gathering technologies for decades.
Perhaps that's why you haven't seen any. Check Sports or Living.
Look I didn't say that I don't appreciate his effort - I do that he survived and broke a record.
But people were exaggerating it a lot as if he found the cure for some medicine.
I don't see that as an act of bravery - brave are the soldiers who fight for the country and what they do is in fact inspiring. What if someone else tries to break this record? That would result in death or near death. I appreciate all the scientific data but the money used for it could've been used for a better cause. I don't see the point in it.
