I volunteered back in the 60's. I did it for adventure and because my Dad, uncles, Grandfather, Greatgrandfather, and Greatgreatgrandfather all served.
I fought for folks who didn't believe in social equality, folks who didn't believe in racial equality, or folks who didn't give a crap about weather other Americans had a decent education, food, or healthcare as well as for those who did.
So I just don't give a damn about a states color, just as long as its Red,White, and Blue when it counts.
