Slain US ambassador Stevens a Courageous and Humble Envoy to Arabs: Should Media Show Pictures of Ambassador's Body?

Islamic supremacists murdered American Ambassador Chris Stevens in Benghazi, Libya. Ambassador Stevens risked his life to help the people of Libya form a better country, to protect their rights, to stabilize their nation, and generally improve their lives. They returned his kindness with murder and possibly torture before his death (according to recent reports.)

Pictures of Stevens' beaten and bloody body dragged by a Libya mob have circulated. It sickens me to see his body intentionally humiliated by the enemy of Western civilization. The alleged worshipers of the religion of peace brutally murdered him and want to use his corpse as propaganda in the war against our values. They want to intimidate us and undermine our values.

On the other hand, the media has the responsibility to show the truth. They have the job to inform -- not cast judgment or censor themselves too much. Showing the pictures helps Westerners know the evil that our enemy (the radical Islamic supremacists) possesses. It demonstrates the extreme measures they will use to defeat us. They do not want peace. They would not accept our surrender: only conversion to Islam or death. They seek to destroy, not build.

Should the news media show the pictures of Ambassador's Stevens' dead body? Does it help Western values? Does it hurt the dignity of Chris Stevens? The Stevens family? Does it undermine America's strength and aid the enemy?

Note: These Islamic supremacists don't represent all Muslims. We all know that. I shouldn't have to write it, but I know many Muslim sympathizers will rush to protect the good people/side of Islam before the Muslims themselves will condemn the evil radicals that murder in the name of their religion. With over 1.6 billion Muslims in the world, the good Muslims must fight the radical element. If the fringe amounted to only 1%, that would still amount to 16 million radicals.

WASHINGTONPOST.COM reports:
At the height of Libya’s civil war, Chris Stevens dashed off to the rebel stronghold of Benghazi by cargo boat to help shape an assortment of Libyan politicians and militias into the cohesive unit that would defeat Moammar Gadhafi. A year-and-a-half later, the 52-year-old ambassador died as Islamists attacked a U.S. Consulate in the same city.

Ok, I do notice a small cut on his head I had not noticed before. I see what looks like a lot of soot on him and a small amount on the man holding him. Considering that he had been in a fire I would expect more.

His body is limp but in this picture his head is held up. That could mean nothing or that he was still alive. We know he was dead or near dead when he reached the hospital.

You are pathetically blinded. You are blinded by the ideology of your lord nobama!
He had severe internal bleeding. Nobama would never allow us to see the autopsy reports, we have to get them from overseas news sties!

All I've heard is that he had internal bleeding consistent with death by smoke inhalation.

What you've heard was from nobama's propaganda machine trying to minimize the impact of this attack. His talking heads have been all over the media trying to make this a Romney's failure's mid east policy. You could see it unfolded right before your eyes if you look that a failed president is trying to cover up his failed mod east policy with help of the mainstream media.

If you seek truth, than look for them and not be spoon fed.

These are the people obama liberated at the cost of our blood and treasure and look a the payback we get throughout the region.

It is Hillary's policy that she advocated for the past two years. Can't blame this one on Bush or Romney although the news media and the left are trying hard to make it Romney failure! NOT!!!

Many of these people do not like us in fact they hate us. We should have never got involved in the affairs in the first place. This also applies to Egypt and Syria. It is not our job to change the world. I would send in what ever people we need to and remove what people we have there and the level the place and tell the Embassy’s they are not longer welcome here.

They should not show the pictures in the news here as it serves no good purpose.

On this one I will go with the old adage "Use your words". Once upon a time, the media only had their words, have forgotten how to use them? I think for the preservation of dignity, they can occasionally muster the strength and integrity to act humanely.
That being said, I don't trust them to be honest enough to do that and a picture says a million words. This one leaves me torn.

I think the pictures are important. I note that this blog describes it as beaten and bloody. The pictures I saw did not show that. They showed someone who was obviously in poor shape but had no signs of a beating.

Second the pictures do not show a mob dragging him through the streets. They are ambiguous on this point and could very well show him being carried to a hospital as is claimed.

The pictures are important evidence of what really happened and should be shown.

I believe the Obama Administration choose not to release Bin Laden's corpse pictures.Because they deemed the 'head shot' picture of OBL's remains would inflame the Muslim world!

I think we should have seen Osama's corpse.

However thee importance here is doesn't show a beating. It can be interpreted as a picture of someone being pulled from a fire in an attempt to save them. It also appears Stevens is still alive.
  • sbtbill Stevern... 2012/09/13 20:24:31

Seen it and feel it is consistent with an attempt to rescue someone from a fire. Note the smoke stain on the man holding Stevens face.

The unknown man has a cell phone in his mouth. Do you have evidence of whose it is? Also if it is Steven's what does that mean. Could have fallen out of his shirt and been picked up to save it for him.

Eyes do not appear swollen. There is no blood visible on his shirt. Hair seems to be in relatively normal groom. Man holding him's hand looks sooty.

Each and every photo that expresses true evidence should always be made public.

I'm not an advocate of censorship. We've done and also shown worse. (People have selective memories.)The diplomatic corps, has a clear military understanding of the risk in their assignment.

I'm still waiting, for the satisfaction of seeing Osama bin Laden's body!

He wasn't killed by a rocket/grenade... he was beaten and tortured by a mob... Many news stories can be debunked by publishing widely the images of the Ambassador being paraded around, as opposed to blown to smithereens as has been portrayed at several points since the sieges.

Stevens was a victim of smoke inhalation. He appears to be alive in at least some of the pictures I've seen posted here. A doctor is quoted as saying he treated him for that but failed to revive him. Those pictures did not show obvious injuries.

It is a shame what happened, but we DO NOT need to see that. He isn't an enemy, no one wants to actually SEE him dead. It would only add insult to the tragedy to publicly release photographs of his corpse.

I'm surprised anyone would want to honestly. Does dignity mean nothing?

In saner times I would say give the me their privacy.

Now because of our Dem Muslim Brothers love of hating US, and because many Dem voters have the memories of goldfish, the bodies have to be shown.

And keep playing the video of the muslims saying, "you make us mad, we kill you."

Even if they do show the bodies they won't tell all about what those poor bastards endured.
