After President-elect Barack Obama won the race for president in November of 2008, Obama knew he would have to leave his seat as Illinois Senator. Now, Obama's seat on the Senate is empty and the government officials of Illinois are searching for an acceptable replacement. However, since Obama left, there are no black Senators... so should Obama's senate seat go to another black man?

Martin Luther King Junior's dream was that all people would be treated equally, not that blacks would gain more rights. Saying that a black person deserves the senate seat more than any other race is just as racist as saying that a white person deserves it more than other races.

To me it really dosn't matter, a brain is a brain, I'm sick of this race thing. If we where all color blind would it matter. the color thing was tough doing slavary and was passed down from to the child from the parent. Now it is time to brake the chain and become color blind. If the person has the wisdom and education to get the job done so be it.

Its always the same in each generation! No matter what your IQ,level of education, past accomplishments or lifes record....a black man with any kind of positive outlook on life and carrying a dream is a real threat to those who really don't have much of a life. My dad once said it best "you can't hate someone who's done nothing to you without manifesting that same hate for yourself that one has to live with 24/7.

This is absurd! Whatever happened to being just an American? I have many black friends, one in particular is like my sister and I see absolutely no differences between us. This poll makes the implication only a black Senator can represent a black populace. I think it's racist to make such a profoundly ignorant statement!

Only the people who think they can gain by using the race card think race is the most important requirement. I prefer honesty and an understanding of the Constitution to any racial test. That is why I voted for the Black candidate opposing Obama for Senate.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., an avowed Republican, said it best, " I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”

Liberals, the Mainstream Media and the vested racial animosity groups drove us back 45 years.

In November, America elected a black man as president. Disregarding his race as a factor in stating they wanted a change. But for the past year, Liberals, Race Ambulance Chasers, the Mainstream Media have worked doggedly to destroy King's vision. And to turn back the hands of time so that instead of being able to judge a man on the content of his character, they are forcing America to judge him based upon the color of his skin.
America turns a deaf ear to King and instead marched backwards to the days when the content of a man's character was secondary to the color of his skin.

94% of all Black American voters cast their ballot for Obama. Tell me they are NOT racist!!

Put the BEST American in Obama’s empty Senate seat. BETTER YET HAVE AN ELECTION FOR IT AND LET WE THE PEOPLE SPEAK.

NOT WE THE BLACK PEOPLE. BUT WE AMERICANS.

TIME FOR RACICISM IN ALL ITS DIBILITATING AND ROTTEN FORMS TO BE DOA!!

    You racists, get over it!

  • Bernard rob 2009/04/10 16:19:05

I agree! However, the reality of it all is that people are going to play that card consciously or subconsciously. Lets face it! Race becomes an issue anytime a person of color takes a positive step towards progress because everytime they do they are initiating the response by a lot of racists and bigots out here to "play the race card" in defense of keeping with stereotypic attitudes . ...and if called on it; accuses others of playing it . It shouldn't be that way but thats what it is until each successive generation dilutes these attitudes over time. Then and only then people will be able to look at each other as a person and not as a color.

The seat should go to who ever fulfill the position, on their own merit,
we should stop going into this road of race, religion, one is appointed because of his experience, what he could deliver and before anything to be patriotic, loyal to his country so he can serve it well with total dedication and love.

Race shouldn't matter, but it's been a long time coming for African Americans to be represented again. If not Obama's seat, maybe Rahm Emanuel's seat will be won by an African American.
It's not a matter of race, it's who best represents the state.

Obama is a illegitimate president-elect, born in KENYA. He's never revieled his certificate of birth. only a Certification of Live Birth that is not proof he was born in the uSA. Do your homework. Chicago corruption has been rampant for years, do some research.

ps- every single US president has come from the loins of a WHITE woman, he's not black. Too bad, he would've made history.

If this is true, then he cannot be President.

If he is not a natural born US Citizen then it is against the law for him
    to be President.

This needs to be documented, what can anyone add to this.

Thanks for the links, read them thoroughly, still have yet to simply see a "long form birth certificate" from Hawaii, this needs to be shown to counter the conspiracy theorists and crazies. Daniel J. Berg, a democrat lawyer from Phila., Pa, had a sworn affidavit (I saw it) from Obama's paternal grandmother swearing she was at bedside when he was born in Mombasa Kenya. The theory goes his mother and father flew to Hawaii, as they also did with his sister after her birth abroad, to assure U.S. benefits - you can see why political conspiracy nuts would go ape nuts here. So maybe these people are full of crap, but a "long form birth certificate" would sure shut them up - Hawaii is a democrat controlled state and the hospital administrator is an Obama supporter, would be two more conspiracy theorist claims. See, it goes on and on without just publicly presenting an embossed "long from birth certificate" - who knows who could be FOS - chances are you're right, but I'd really like this put to rest for once and for all with the presentation publicly of a "LONG FORM BIRTH CERTIFICATE".
