Liberty Counsel
Mathew Staver, Founder and Chairman

In just a few days, over 40,000 friends of Liberty Counsel have united in purpose by solemnly promising to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and demanding the restoration of constitutional authority, accountability, transparency, and respect for the rule of law by our elected officials.
I would like over 100,000 Oath of Allegiance Letters to greet key congressional leaders when they return to Capital Hill in early September!
I can't think of a timelier message to send to the 112th Congress than to remind them of their own oaths of office during the final phase of this congressional session!
In recent years, we have repeatedly witnessed the Leftists in power in all three Branches of federal government run roughshod over the Constitution, the rule of law, and the clear will of the American people.
It's no wonder that 80% of Americans deeply distrust our federal government, according to a recent Pew survey.
I need your signature to be included – and your help in getting those 100,000 signatures.
First, please click here to sign the Oath of Allegiance Letter. The Oath of Allegiance Letter promises that you will stand with Liberty Counsel and many tens of thousands of like-minded, patriotic citizens of the United States to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic:

Not to insert a little logic into this conservative fantasy, but it isn't liberals who have attacked the constitution. Our conservative Supreme Court gave us CItizens United, breaking our democracy. Our conservative states have attacked our voting rights. Our conservative legislators are attacking our 1st Amendment separation of Church and State. Our religious conservative ideologues are waging their endless war against women.

To be fair, Obama has been awful on repealing the conservative attacks on civil liberties from the Bush era as well as stopping the conservative tax cuts which have threatened to shut down our government's programs for the vulnerable.

Defending the constitution is admirable, but not in line with modern American conservatism. If you want to defend the constitution, become a libertarian or a progressive; avoid the center right fools of the Democratic Party and the crazy, theocratic fascists of the Republican Party.

CU didn't break our democracy, morally bankrupt politicians did. Conservative states did not attack voting rights, they are trying to protect them by making sure illegals, felons, and the dead don't vote. The first amendment says nothing about a separation of church and state, that is actually non-existent. There is no war on women, there is a war against unborn babies.
Obama has been too busy attacking conservative ideals to bother with anything they have done. It's not the tax cuts that are the problem, it is the taxes being taken in the first place. I think it's ironic that you can only see civil liberties being attacked from the right and completely ignorant to the ones being perpetrated by the left, such as forcing religious institutions to do things against their faith and no free-speech zones, both of which are actually protected by the first amendment.
The hostile government takeover of the healthcare industry is one of the main drags on our system, along with unknown tax rates and over-regulation of very necessary industries driving prices up on almost every consumable item in America.
I suggest you take a step back from the sarcastic standpoint and start to look at things a little more seriously

First of all, the separation of church and state is both vital and necessary. Read the first amendment, particularly the part about the state not establishing a religion; The state may not endorse, give preferential treatment to, or legislate the precepts of ANY religion. If you don't support the seperation of church and state there is literally nothing to prevent religion from taking over the USA. If you want Utah to be run through the religious laws of Mormonism, Texas to be a evangelical-only state, and Michigan to be ruled by Sharia, this is a really good was to operate.

    1) Citizens United broke our democracy because it allowed corrupt individuals to spend infinite amounts of money (often anonymously) on our elections. This decision has essentially turned our politics into a public auction of our politicians.

    2) There is no significant voter fraud problem (as admitted by conservative states during their court challenges) and these laws are targeted at disenfranchisement rather than integrity. Conservatives are using the excuse provided by dozens of voter fraud cases to disenfranchise millions of voters most of which vote Democratic.

    3) Conservatives have passed hundreds of laws limiting a woman's right to control her own body, universally opposed fair pay for women during the...

    3) Conservatives have passed hundreds of laws limiting a woman's right to control her own body, universally opposed fair pay for women during the Lilly Ledbetter act, and have attacked insurance coverage of contraception while continuing it with Viagra--if this isn't indicative of a war on women, I don't know what is.

    4) If you don't like taxes you don't get to live in a civilized society; things like roads, bridges, the national defense, food safety, and police departments don't get funded by fairies. If you want a non-existent tax burden, move to Somalia.

    5) Forcing a religious institution or corporation run by a religious individual to follow the civil law (ex. cover birth control) isn't a violation of the 1st Amendment. These people can be forced to fund things which they object to (birth control, abortions for poor rape victims, etc,), but they cannot be force to receive these services themselves.

    6) The ACA didn't take over the healthcare industry, and they are currently making record profits. Now, people are forced to buy insurance from these companies and they couldn't be happier.

    7) Our taxes are at a record low (the average real corporate tax rate is 9%) and our regulations are far under what they should be. Your statement is simply untrue.

I may be sarcastic, but I also have a degree in political science and massive exposure to the issues--Please reply to me when you can be a little more "serious" and can make arguments not created by Rush Limbaugh.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"

In respect to simplicity and concision, the term to describe the meaning of this part of the 1st Amendment is the "separation of church and state" (a term from the writing of Thomas Jefferson--an author of the first Amendment).

    The stupid. It burns!!!

You are either willfully dense, or just not that bright:

The combination of the establishment clause and the protection of religious practices are referred to as the "separation of church and state" because it is a convenient label.
