The Battle Royal begins in Florida. In this corner we have Governor Rick Scott, who wants to purge the Florida Voting Roles of 182,000 SUSPECTED illegal voters.

Governor Rick Scott

In this corner we have the United States Federal Government, who says that this is an attempt at voter suppression. The Department of Justice has ORDERED, the state of Florida to stop purging its voter roles in this fashion.

Department of Justice

The Justice Department said it will sue Florida in federal court for
violating two federal laws that prevent states from suppressing voters.
The state will be subject to "enforcement action," the agency said in a
curtly worded letter.

Ring Girl Round 1
Hours earlier, Florida filed a lawsuit of its own against the federal
government. Secretary of State Ken Detzner, who oversees elections, sued
the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, accusing the agency of
denying access to a federal database with information about immigrants.
The lawsuit claims the federal agency forced the state to run afoul of
at least one of the two federal voting laws the Justice Department
accuses it of flouting.

So Whose side are you on: The State of Florida and Rick Scott or the Federal government Department of Justice?

If you are dead or are here without becoming a citizen, you do not get to vote.

    Florida has provisional voting.
If you walk up to the registration table at the polling place on the day of election and your name is not on the registration roll, you can file a provisional ballot. It's the same form everyone else uses but instead of being counted right away, your vote is reviewed by the election board to verify that you are a citizen.
It's called provisional because your vote is counted providing that you are a citizen.

Often provisional doesn't count. Besides considering the scandalous history of the florida election committee, I wouldn't trust them to do the right thing.

The state's election committee is in no way related to each counties separate election department.

    "doesn't count"?
    Why?
Because the voter failed to supply the information to be validated?

Here's a link to the form for a provisional ballot in one of Florida's counties.
You can see from the form what information the voter needs to be validated.

    http://election.dos.state.fl....

The claim that the provisional ballot didn't count includes those ballots that failed to provide the information to validate their vote.

No, read up on it. Provisional balloting is rarely a factor in an election. They get "lost" or thrown away.

    I agree, that's it's rarely a factor.
But do you recall the election of Bush in 2000 (for the whole nation) came down to counting 'hanging chads' in the state of Florida?

So exceptions to 'rarely a factor' definitely occur and can alter the events in the course of a nation.

Not true in Florida. If you're interested, they have provisions for people who are not on the voter's list, but want to vote. They simply are verified as legal voters AFTER they cast their vote. So that's a false objection.

Florida law states they must send out the letters 90 days prior to the primary. If the letters aren't already sent then they are in violation of florida election law.

Ha! Sounds like they've taken lessons from the current federal administration! Being in violation is no big thing to them! Hopefully, that's not the case, though. I really don't know what they have sent or haven't sent because I got sick of listening to the joke.. er, network programs that are popularly identified as news... :>) Recovery will come soon and I'll start paying attention again!

Correct. I have no problem with that, but how would one know that they were slotted for "termination"? Since they plan on getting rid of 180,000 and have only sent out 3000 letters?

I read they had only sent out around 2600 with a little less than a 100 found to be fraudulent. It's a good start and won't suppress anyone who really wants to vote.

Florida law states that these letters must be done 90 days BEFORE the primary. That was May 16. If the 180,000 letters have not been sent then they are too late and their own laziness has caused it.

Have you considered that this purge of the rolls has never happened before and that Florida is a retirement destination for many from the upper east coast? It's not totally out of line to think that in ten or more years this many folks could have died without the election boards being informed. My Mom was still getting voter registration cards for my Dad three years after he passed. It's not out of the realm of possibility. The sad thing is that with identity theft on the rise, there are crime groups who use the identities of deceased individuals to create "new" false identities for purposes of living in the U.S. illegally or for the purposes of covering up crime.

Voter roles have been purged since they've been kept. We might ask why Florida is being picked on. What is interesting is that some of these illegal voters came to light because they refused jury duty on the basis of not being US citizens. Funny how they want to vote but not serve on a jury.

What the heck is voter suppression??????...............
Is that a progressive term for "Purging Illegals"?

What is wrong with upholding the law ...keeping LEGAL voters on the roles??

Why is the department of justice always trying to protect law BREAKERs , ever since

    Eric Holder became attorney general?

What business does a person who is not a citizen of this country have voting? Simple as that. Imagine this, if ther are 182,000 illegals on the voter rolls in Florida, how many do you think there are in California, New York, etc, etc. multiply those numbers and you could potentially have people who are NOT citizens deciding who serves in constitutional offices across the country, as well as President of the United States. They have no business voting for Republicans, Democrats, Independents...not a citizen? You are not eligible to vote ! These states that are allowing same day registration on election days are opening the door for potential voter fraud. The shenanigans that have occured in the past elections have apparently taught this country nothing !!! By the way, the winners in this legal "battle"? They are called lawyers and they get a paycheck, a nice paycheck or two or three. The longer it is drawn out, the more they cash in !

When all of your election commissioners feel that it is wrong, that it reeks of voter suppression, even republican commissioners, it is clearly evident what is going on.
