Should Women Be allowed to go topless in public?

If women can. Men are topless in public already.

I have no problem with seeing a boob, but given that ours is a society that still freaks out about breastfeeding in public it's safe to say we are not ready for topless women in public.

At least breastfeeding women have enough sense to cover themselves up and they have a legitimate REASON to have their top off or partly off.

It really ought to be controlled/regulated locally and private locales ought to be able to determine whether it is allowed or not, even if it is allowed locally. No shirt, no shoes, no service can apply equally to boys and girls. I suppose a cynic would observe that as long as there is Viagra, there can't be too many exposed breasts, but having seen some primitive cultures where the women don't do the things we are used to women doing, you might find it more off-putting than alluring.

According to the Texas civil code, it is illegal to expose one's gentials. Breasts do not meet the legal definition of genitals. Females can go topless anywhere in Texas and not be charged with a violation of state civil code. However, cities and counties may have a law aimed at keeping breasts covered. Call your local DA for more info.

(a) A person commits an offense if he exposes his anus or any part of his genitals with intent to arouse or gratify the sexual desire of any person, and he is reckless about whether another is present who will be offended or alarmed by his act.

Breasts are not genitalia and they are not your anus.

Yes, or nude, and it would be nice to live in a society where no-one cares what you choose to wear or not wear. I'd like to be able to sunbathe nude on the lawn outside my workplace instead of having to cycle to the nudist beach. Objecting to nudity makes no sense.

There is an old saw about there being a time and a place for everything. That implies there are times and places where some things (nudity in this case) are not appropriate.

Well, I for one, am glad it is. I would never want to keep you from flaunting your junk at your home or in designated areas, but I sure as heck don't want you flaunting it unexpectedly around me and my kids when we are doing basic things like shopping for groceries playing on the kidscape at the park. ;) We have nude beaches here in Austin at the lakes. Europe is pretty much top optional at beaches. I haven't had the chance to research European beaches, but I can tell you that nude beaches around here can make you blind. It isn't the beautiful people who seem to be attracted to them by and large, but people you really don't want to see! ;)

Respect, BTW, is something that needs to be earned. Courtesy should be given freely, but some people don't deserve respect. And rape is always wrong. It is also usually more about power and force than about sexuality. But anything you do to encourage others to inflict harm on you is unwise. Dressing provocatively is fine, but it is also more risky just as wearing expensive jewelry in public is fine, but risky. Remember the old saw that when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.
