I joined the military the day JFK was assassinated.I am a Vietnam veteran.

We are borrowing the money that it takes to occupy 130 PLUS countries, borrowing money to GIVE foreign aid, and paying $500,000,000.00 DAILY FOR INTEREST ON OUR NATIONAL DEBT.

WE could do more damage with 4 aircraft spraying 24D (weed killer) in Afghanistan and we're paying millions to keep them from selling (what they are selling on a mass capacity).

HERE NEEDS FIXING, MORE MONEY THAT WE BORROW
    WILL NOT WORK.

A CREDIT CARD CAN not pay off a debt.

We GIVE aid (in the form of money) for our companies to outsource. FIX HERE, NOT THE WORLD.....ALPEAUX

This is a war we cannot win. The enemy is psychotic on a level that noone on earth can deal with rationally. These people are willing to die for their beliefs, so we essentially are over there using all our resources to make these nutjobs happy.

...and as we leave, we should present them with a live nuke or a chemical/biological bomb ticking down as a good-bye present. *That* should clean out all the scum. (Kinda like using a bug bomb to clean out a roach infestation.)

Despite the dire predictions by the "hawks" at the time we didn't have to return to Viet Nam with a bigger army (or a bigger bomb) ... see comment below)) We should have left "yesterday".

Yes Vietnam ! such memories! anyways, I was not able to see your comment below so I maybe way off base here. Okay I believe that today Vietnam is a communist government trying to infuse capitalism in order to maintain the economy correct?
Also from many things I have read. I believe that much like south Korea the people would be today far better served had we succeeded. Communism has been tried in all it's various forms for over a hundred years with out true success for the people. Man has tried everything you can think of and the newest idea after all the research is capitalism and the free market. What if we tried to bring the world up to our standards instead of bring the united states down to theirs? I'm rambling sorry. I believe that if you want to change a nation from being a 7th century relic, one would have to have to win the war, settle the population, set up a government, help build an army to defend its self, then maintain bases there for at least 3 generations (measuring each generation on a 20 year span). See like muslims I think a free nation and a free market is the best way to go for the individual. The problem with the elites is they can't understand why you might like to mudding on saturdays. muslims free nation free market individual elites understand mudding saturdays

Everything you say MIGHT be true, however, I don't feel it is the "job" of the U.S. government to be "nation builders", especially when doing so wastes taxpayer dollars. Following your philosophy, we should be invading at least a dozen nations to "bring them up to our level": at the cost how how many more (w-a-s-t-e-d) lives? .... how many more billions of dollars -- talk about "wasteful spending"!!! Want to "nation build"? -- start with the U.S.A. Why, in this self-proclaimed "greatest country in the world" do we have (I believe the latest figure is about 14 million) Americans living below the government established "poverty level"?; why do Americans, particularly seniors, have to choose between paying for groceries or their medication?; why does "Wall Street", no matter how badly it screws up, continue to "laugh all the way to the bank" while ordinary citizens who "scrimped and saved and invested" can do no better than "start over"? .... etc., etc., etc. -- want to "build a nation"? -- start by fixing all the things that are wrong with America!!!!!! -- then worry about others. I could "go on" for pages, but I think you get my point.

The money we are wasting to fight a war in Countries that don't want us there can better well be spent on America and it's "Legal Citizens"!! Then again for that to happen we must make a huge move to clean out Washington and the parasites that are now residing there.

We need to finish the job first, then leave. The problem is that Congress won't let our troops and their commanders do their jobs. The Radical Liberals of the country want to turn it into another Viet Nam, some to relive their youth, some to feel like they were part of the same sort of nonsense their grandparents were in, some through pure ignorance, all because they haven't truly thought things through. We could finish this war, and the one in Iraq very quickly, and save money in the long-run, if Congress would just back-the-@#$%-off of the military commanders and let them do it.

There is no job to finish.
We were done the day we got saddam. should have packed up and shipped out that very night. Leave them to their hell. They went to great pains to make it what it is today, They don't want it fixed. They hate us even more for trying. They don't see anything that needs fixing. It's not America. Stop trying to make it America and bring the boys back home.

We certainly do, on many levels. Remember, they started this war. Plus, think of all the bleeding-hearts that pushed so hard to get us there because of all the human rights violations, the Opium trade, and the illegal diamonds and such. The list goes on and on, but I'm not going to waste my time trying to convince you; you should take the time to really look at this objectively and research it yourself. There's a plethora of information available on the internet especially, but don't just look at the biased, liberal-controlled mainstream media, or just the jaded opinions of Liberals posted on blogs and vlogs, trying to pass themselves off as authoritative sources.

Its not our territory and we are not needed there. Getting out at 2014 is way to late and pure waste of money we could use to pay the deficit off. If you want to complain about human right violations start here in the USA there is enough to do in that behalf. Well and no I am not interested in biased information brother I am also not interested to send one soldier into another country unless its an emergency.

Win the damned war first, then leave! What is it about our New Castrati government (since Vietnam) that sends our boys and girls to war, and then handcuffs them? Troops have rules against firing on mosques, even when fired upon from them, and this Vietnamesque "don't fire until fired upon" order. WTF? Unleash our military might on a backward ass Middle Eastern country and the war will be over in months, if not days.
  • Fernand... doodad 2010/07/21 22:32:27

President Obama should never have escalated war in Afghanistan. I believe he listened to Pentagon top officials, a huge mistake. The U.S. has enough problems still in Iraq, and still spending millions of U.S. money there; though Iraq is becoming more unstable. My son was in Iraq a few years ago and currently in Iraq in a non fighting position for the U.S. Navy. Bush was responsible for starting the mess in Iraq; it is now more difficult to leave. The first Bush President who invaded Iraq for Kuwait refused to capture Saddam Hussein, though advised to do so. He believed this would cause a long term commitment in Iraq by the U.S. which has turned out to be the case.
All the billions sent to Afghanistan, and Pakistan wound up creating a strong corrupt government helping the Taliban become more powerful. Let us face facts; Gen. McChrystal could not do the job; no general is going to make any difference. When Obama became U.S. President I never expected him to escalate more war; he was too weak to say no to the Pentagon, now he is stuck. Our troops could be fighting the Taliban for many years. Taliban also use innocent citizens as shields. Nothing is being accomplished accept wasting more money, and lives, inviting more terror attacks against the United States. You cannot fight such diversity of culture and factions.
