Out of sight, out of mind. You seldom miss what you see.
Has the IRS made paying your taxes too painless? Would writing a check each pay period make everyone aware of how deep Uncle Sam has his hand down in your pants? Would people complain to their representatives when the tried to spread your wealth?

By the way, "No tax" is absolutely unrealistic. "Flat tax" just puts us back to where our current system started which was broken from its initial creation. Our current tax system cannot be fixed. It must be replaced. Fair Tax is the best answer. It is the only fair answer.
If everyone received their entire earnings and had to write a check to the federal government once a month, people would be ready for rebellion.
