Our own country should come first, since we are not far from economic collapse.

International aid is not about fixing anybody's country. It's about what kind of compassion our country can show to the least of countries, and the least of peoples. It's a macro-example of a biblical admonition.

Fix ourselves first, of course. Our interactions with other countries should not be based on "fixing" anything but should be driven strictly by our own national interests. And any country to which we "donate" our money and/or services needs to be required to accept responsibility for the proper usage of any money we give them. And if the bulk of our money goes into the coffers of greedy politicians or cartels or what have you and not to the intended recipients, then it's time to cease that funding once and for all. We unfortunately have a history of making "feel-good" gestures with our money to help out impoverished countries but totally fail to monitor what's being done with that money. That is unacceptable. And stupid.

without a strong body ourselves we can't truly help others....I mean old George Washington warned us not to be policeman for the world till we took care of our own problems...of course some things no country can ignore

We would be better off, most countries we help hate us anyway but love the money we send to them, spend the money at home cut the evil empires out and then watch them run to us.

Without a doubt we need to take care of our country. But, we need to keep our enemies at bay too. By doing this, we are also taking care of our country. There is so much going on in this country right now, I almost feel we need part of our military helping us stop the evils that are going on in this country and arresting those that are bringing about those evils.

The left-wing wacko's may not like it but if America goes so does the rest of the free world. America is still the guardian of freedom in the world if this country is lost to the Socialist / Communist the world may never see freedom for many generations. Just think if the Nazis won or the USSR freedom would be a footnote in history.

Everyone should take care of their respective countries before they start preaching to others. Why the hell would any country take advice from a country that's massively in debt, huge unemployment, No leadership and no signs of improving.

Your logical flaws are always so classic, bob.

    1) False premise. We are not fixing everyone elses country. Aid from the US come in two big chunks; official development aid, private aid. As a percent of GDP, the US is consistently in the second tier. Typically ranked somewhere in the 20's. On the other hand, private foreign aid, as a percent of income, we do much better, typically in the top few. In net dollars we are the largest donor because we have the largest economy. But running around fixing the world? Just not true.

    2) False dichotomy. First of all there is a very strong, simple and direct self interest in "fixing the world". As other economies become stronger, they can buy our goods and services. Please google the term "comparative advantage" and try to understand it. It is not a zero sum game which means that a choice between us and them doesn't exist in the simplistic way you posit.

Why do we have to always babysit other countries and try to get them out of their financial woes? What about OUR country? We need to pay attention to our own problems before we sink...who would come to OUR aid then...you know?

I'm not for isolationism. I think, for instance, we did the right thing in preventing a genocide in Libya. Had we refused to help there where we were so uniquely able to, and a horrible bloodbath had ensued, we would be a much weaker force for good throughout the Middle East and the Arab Spring would likely have frozen in its tracks.

But in general, let's do some nation building here. We can't nation build on the other side of the globe if the bridged we need to cross to get to the port of departure crumble and fall into our rivers.

We should take care of ourselves first and then start fixing other countries. Because the way I see it, if we don't take care of ourselves, then how are we gonna take care of the other countries?????? Some people don't understand that. Why? I don't know. If you can't take care of yourself, then you can't expect to take care of someone else. That's dumb!! Then that means that the both of you won't have a pot to piss in. Know what I'm saying?

The fundamentals of our economy are strong here. Or didn't you get the memo?

We should be more worried about regime changes in nations 10s of thousands of miles away, OBVIOUSLY.

No brainer. We occupy the globe. We're broke, but we're in how many "undeclared" wars now? We're broke but our borders are open, we're broke but we're bailing out auto and banking industries, we're broke yet our govt is growing, we're broke but our politicians are banking.

Yeah, I think it's time to fix ourselves first and then mind our own damn business.

WE should stop fixing everyone else's country and fix our America. Nothing true-er has been said in the past 30 years. I am going to support and vote for Ron Paul as our next President of the United States because for one of his platforms he says just that. America needs to worry about and fix America, and America unless attacked by a foreign country needs to stay out of other nations business. After Viet Nam, and Iraq , I am ready to see America go to work fixing ourselves and leave the other guys to work out their own problems , and you know with todays communications systems, if some other country just cannot figure out what to do, they can always pick up a phone and call us for help. If we dont hear the phone ringing then it is a good bet they don't need us to come meddeling . Everybody have a great week.
