no one should vote unless they know what they are voting for/against. If they are that apathetic then their votes count for nothing and can actually be harmful to us

There should be a test to see if a person is smart enough to vote.

No...Those that don't vote are willing to accept who ever wins. Those that vote should be able to proove residency, citizenship and voters card. It should be mandatory for all voting places to demand to see proof of said requirements. That's how I'd like to see it.

I think educating our children as early as Kindergarten on the importance of voting in general would serve our children well especially in their adult years and in every aspect of their lives.
    Voting should not be compulsory!

I wish there was a way to ensure that people knew what they were voting for and why. But there is no way of compelling anyone to vote and make sure they aren't just "closing their eyes and pulling a lever"

It is compulsory here and I don't like that. Sometimes there just isn't anyone I'd be happy to vote for.

Sounds like a recipe for corruption and further breakage of the system. The history of Tammany Hall comes to mind where Irish workers sold their votes...

Voting in a presidential election is a privilege, not a right OR an obligation. Compelling someone TO vote is just a whisker away from telling them HOW to vote.

I am just saying: "If people would know better the Constitution and their rights, today most of the apathetic congressmen would act more responsible".

No; voting is a right, not a responsibility. If we made it compulsory I think even less would do so than presently do.

    We already have enough sheeple,
what happens when you give a choice to some that doesn't care less.
I t would be like rolling dice to find out who wins the election.
On second thought that just might work...

Unless a person is willing to invoke their rights they will lose them. I hope that everyone get's out and votes. But I do not want to force people who have no idea what they are voting for to make a choice. It will end badly and most likely be based on some cheep toy or button they got. I would much rather we have laws that ensure that all those that are US citizens have the right to vote. I would like to also make sure id's are checked at the door and the votes are both electronic and manual.

Damn it hit the wrong button again! I don't want someone tell me what to do every again I got my fill of that when I was in the military(of course I do have to take orders at work) so no I don't think it should be compulsory.

But is not voting also a choice. The way I see it is if you are forced to vote for the lesser evil. Thus if you don't vote you show displeasure in the choices.

If anything we should not bend over backwards to get people to vote. If they are not passionate about voting, not passionate to thinking hard about the issues involved, I am all for giving them a bag of chips and a six-pack as a reward for not voting.

it should be the duty of every member of any society to take part in the process. it would put an end to any chance of voter fraud as well. unfortunately, not election fraud though.

It should probably require a license and an actual interest in voting other than seeing what you can suck out of the system for little to no cost to yourself; but no, sanctioning the political class mobsters should not be compulsory.
