Should using five-day fertility clinic fetuses for stem cell research be an ethics question?

Five-day old fetuses used for stem cell research are in the holoblastic
cleavage state, and resemble a hollow sphere of cells, all still
undifferentiated. These fetuses are excess fetuses from multiple
successful fertilizations, and remain frozen until discarded

They should be used as a fresh source of cells for valuable research
into this exciting new area of science. The fetuses are already there,
and will not be used for any kind of research due to mistakes made by
    this administration.

There are better options for sources of stem cells. Adult stem cells and umbilical stem cells have been shown far more successful.

But only if they will be discarded. They should not be harested for the sole purpose of stem cell research.

Ethics, morals. Ethics is the study of morals and specific choices. There is no ethics without morals. Becareful what you ask for, you might just get it.

If we don't do it, some other country will get the jump on us. It doesn't take long for private research to become public knowledge. While we're debating the ethics, someone else is tooling up the industry and preparing to market the product. Keep an eye on Western Europe.

" It doesn't take long for private research to become public
knowledge." Correct and the private sector is the one that should foot
the bill, not government, that is not why government was set up.

Right. I'll put that in the official report and send it along to the special interest groups.

Well that should just about end any debate. If you're throwing away food, why not give to someone who would eat it?

But they shouldn't be funded by tax dollars. If there is viable science
there then let Pfiser and all the other rich drug companies pay for
them. I am tired of my tax money going to fund peanut storage, salmon
gene mapping, and all of the other useless government waste that goes
on to get votes from congress people.

As long as my tax dollars don't go to it, I'm fine with it. Let the
drug companies pay for their own research, since they will be the ones
making all the money from any potential find.

Well I agree that it is a touchy subject, but the fact that these stem
cells are in no way affiliated with abortion sends the path of debate
down a road that is actually persuasive; and can possibly change
uninformed people’s minds on the subject.

I dont have any ethical questions, my beef is that they want government
funding for it. If drug companies stand to make the money then let them
    pay for the research.

That is misinformations. Bush hasn't blocked the study on them. He just
blocked GOVERNMENT funding for them. If the drug companies are going to
make the money, then let them pay for the research.
