But a full audit needs to be performed to see if they are accomplishing their primary mission as economically as possible. If not they need to be told they have 1 year to streamline operations themselves or Congress will do it for them. If Congress can't get it done within a few months, since they will already have had a year to think about it, then shut it down.

The Department was founded to combat the apparant lack of coordination that might have avoided the 9-11 disaster. However it also inherited all sorts of missions that have no direct relationship with combating terrorism. Current critiscisum appears to be in that area. I haven't heard that much critiscisum in their primary mission---combating terrorism. Any reorganization should be well thought out and studied extensivly. Just getting rid of it will put the nation right back where we were prior to 9-11.

The percieved enemy of the Government is the people. Their votes present a danger, their wealth creates a threat, Their being armed also gives them the ability to protect themselves. If goverment can just get people to be dependant on them for security, food and housing then they cease being a threat. CONTROL is what its about. The noose gets tighter,,,If they destroy our economy we are much more controllable. The Government is still going to exist. Its not a person,,its an Entity, it does not serve us it feeds off of us. Haven't we got enough police agencies already? Now we got a police agency that has authority over all other police agencies. At some point in the not too distance future, I think we will see that the Department of Homland Security was designed to work against us and not for us. Remember, I told you so.

Not yet, there are many other liberal agencies that need to go long before this one. They are only following executive orders regarding immigration..

Homeland Security was developed in response to 9-11, the threat of terrorism still exists, and Homeland Security will continue to exist also. Maybe it could be eliminated, responsibilities going to other agencies, that would seem logical to condense government and spending, but I don't think it will happen, especially during an election year. The risk that something might happen as soon as we get rid of it, our politicians aren't going to put their jobs on the line suggesting it.

Whenever the government fails to provide what it promised to, it gets bigger. What better way to grow than to create a whole new agency?

what exactly have they really done... before homeland security was established the FBI and CIA worked together to do the same things homeland security is "supposed" to do

homeland security came about because FBI and CIA didn't work together well and some believe 9-11 should have been known about and stopped.

50 years of adding new ( we gotta have or the sky will fall agencies) and all we have to show for it is dysfunctional government, over lapping authority waste.
Trouble in a nut shell is GOVERNMENT just adds more layers of control and cost but THEY NEVER CUT ANYTHING.

oh it was known... there have been reports from Israel and other countries warning us something is going to happen... just because they didnt start working well together doesnt mean we need to add another agency to get in the way and do nothing to add to the dysfunctionality of the big picture... it means we need to get them to cooperate with each other... its like you have two managers of a business who dont work well together in a small restaurant that only needs 2 managers to run... and then the owner adds a third manager to work with them... its only going to lead to each manager working on top of another complicating things and not getting the actual work done

it has no real function other than to tell you you "YOU NEED TO BE WATCHED" for your own protection.

thats for the CIA and the FBI to do... if i recall all the terrorists plots that have been foiled were because of the FBI... when was the last time Homeland Security done anything to actually prevent attacks
