Should UCLA Student Alexandra Wallace Be Punished for Anti-Asian YouTube Video Rant?

Alexandra Wallace just learned the power of the Internet and that some things are better off not being recorded. A student at UCLA, Wallace recently posted a video on YouTube of her complaining about Asian students in the library who were calling people in Japan after the tsunami.

"I swear they're going through their whole phone book, checking on everybody with this tsunami thing," she says on the video, and then goes on mocking their accents and criticizing them for their lack of "American manners."

After the video went viral, Wallace apologized, according to ABC News.

"Clearly the original video posted by me was inappropriate," she said in a statement. "I cannot explain what possessed me to approach the subject as I did. And if I could undo it, I would. I'd like to offer my apology to the entire UCLA campus. For those who cannot find it within them to accept my apology, I understand."

UCLA school officials are now reviewing if any campus policies were broken and will then decide if any punishment would be appropriate.

A school spokesperson released the following statement:

"We've seen the video and it includes comments that we find offensive. They are contrary to the values of UCLA."

It goes agaisnt her 1st amendment, but not only was this video really offensive, it was really stupid. Just for this video for judging people she will have thousands maybe millions of people judging her for being a idiot.

but she really is a moron for posting the rant on youtube. i guess she had a dumb blonde moment.

do act like they're so " SUPERIOR" over most Americans...wow..you wouldn't believe,
with the exception of the Asians who kiss a lot of "White people's butts"...most of them
really think they're better than Americans..just because they are citizens and are well
established-financially......... can a lot of Blacks, I've talked to tell you some stories of

Every university has a code of conduct when it comes to it's students; especially if the student lives in the dorms. If she violated that code, then she deserves to be punished.

As stupid or evil as anyone person's statements maybe they have every right to say them. Let's remind ourselves of some things. She did not do this in the college it's self. So a person making statements on the internet is completely no holds barred. If you get expelled for expressing an opinion on an open forum then where do you draw the line? at abortion? Islam? what? I am militantly anti racist. But they should have every right to say what they want. Because it is people who were against racism who were called "offensive" at one point in history. Anti hate laws give the power to those who wield it to make anything "hate speech". This girl deserves to be thrown out of her college, but she should not be.

If westboro church can win a supreme court trial based on the 1st ammendment, giving them the right to talk HATEFULLY at military funeral's, then she should not get expelled, unless they change that ruling then i stick with my opinion.

Under the Constitution we have the right to Freedom of Speech... but that right also carries responsibilities. So if you fail to exercise responsible speech you must face the consequences. What I find so abhorent, however, is our immediate display of superior christian righteousness to judge and condem a fellow human being who merely expresses a point of view that we disagree with. What ever happened to the christian adage "Judge not, lest ye be judged:"?

WHY IS THIS A NEWS STORY??? Some kid talks smack... happens every day... What about the Wichita Massacre? Ever heard of that news story? NO, You never will, whites were slaughtered, raped and murdered execution style by blacks before they drove over their bodies with SUVs. You will NEVER hear that story by any major media. Or how the one lone survivor walked naked after being shot and raped she walked naked in the winter snow for miles to be saved. If she was black don't you think you'd know her name?
