
Should Trust Funds Be Off Limits To Politicians?

As you may know, the government has been using money in trust funds for decades to spend on other programs. For example money has been taken from the social security trust fund in order to make the deficit appear smaller than it really is.
The American people were sold the idea of a trust fund as a "lock box" where the money they put in would be saved for them. Are the American people being taken advantage of by politicians on both sides of the isle?
Should government trust funds of all types be off limits and left alone by politicians?

After being led to believe that government would take better care of their money, we are finding that instead of Trust Fund Managers or CEOs taking a cut and playing fast with the money the same process is being done by civil servants and elected officials. The public has no chance of gaining intrest, but the government is using our money to play their shell games and float their favours among themselves.

Assuming that they didn't sell at the peak of the crisis, the tubes have replenished the accounts. There are individuals who lost money in the market. EVERYONE who has followed the investment policy of Social Security over the last 70 years has lost money. The stock market outperformed that benchmark about 50 to 1.
