No, at least until the government reforms its policies towards people of the LGBT. Only nine states recognize gay marriage. Various states ban the adoption of children by same-sex couples. also, only 21 states have outlawed discrimation in the workplace based on sexual orentation. The government cannot legally classify any organization as a hate group while the United States itself is also acting as a hate group. I do not like, or agree with the WBC, but we cannot classify them as a hate group just yet

Sticking closer to the definition, a hate group is any group that advocates and practices hate toward a specific class of people, by race, belief, sexual orientation, or any other classification. The WBC advocates and practices hate against MANY classes of people. In fact, it's already being tracked AS a hate group by the ADL and SPLC.

We are long since past whether or not they should be considered a hate group. The question now is, when are we going to do something about it? It's about time we practiced the true separation of church and state, and stopped offering special privileges to these people simply because they call themselves a church.

Is it really going to take violence from the WBC before we stop their hatred? How long is it going to be before their belief that violence isn't the answer fades away and is replaced with a more radical ideal? Even the KKK is protesting against them! When even the KKK is on our side, what's that say for how bad this church is?

They should be classed as what they are: a scam!

They may or may not really believe the B.S. they spout, but they do what they do to make money. They do it to provoke people into assaulting them and/or denying them their “freedom of speech & religion” rights, then they sue! The community, law enforcement, etc.

The “Reverend” Fred Phelps is himself a disbarred attorney, and he has forced his entire clan into law careers, forcing them to become attorneys. It’s a Church and family that is practically nothing but attorneys! The lawsuit kind!

They’re waay too careful in how they word their signs and what they shout for it to be anything but a calculated scam. They get as close as they legally can to the line separating free speech from provocation, but never ever step over that line. Even their children know the rules: they yell about how God hates various groups, but never come out and say that God hates you personally!
