Should we give 18-year-old citizens the power to change our nation, before they can legally pick up a beer?

Why not lower the drinking age to 18 instead? I know a lot of people 21 and over that aren't responsible enough to drink, yet they are allowed to do so because they are of age.

Voting age should be equal to the age at which a person can be drafted should we ever enact another draft.

Judging from the nonsense I read here on SH, the legal voting age should be raised to about 52 years.

Student and taxpayers should be allowed to vote. People on welfare should not be able to vote.

No, raising the age will only increase voter apathy in youth, and by the time they reach voting age they will be so apathetic, that they either won't vote, or they'll vote for the candidate that their favorite celebrity tells them to vote for (which will give celebrities more power in politics)

Now I think the age of consent should mean the age you are allowed to vote.

I think 18-year-olds are more likely to vote for who their celebrity tells them to vote for than 21-year-olds.

yeah but, if you increase the age, 18-20 year olds would stop caring. And I'm afraid to see what they'd vote like when their 21.

If they have a 4.0 gradepoint average, go for it .....If not make them wait till they're 21...But maybe that won't work either.

I think it should be lowered to about 16.

I turn 16 next year, and even I know I'm nowhere near mature enough to influence my country.

I'm 16 next year too, and I know that I've definitely held opinions regarding my government for years. I'd like to have a say.

So they can be shipped off to war, but they can't vote? Very logical...

They are old enough to die for this country at 18, why shouldn't they be allowed to vote and have a beer

No, if they can legally be held responsible for their actions they have a right to participate in their government.

that is just a cheap-shot at rigging the election, 18 is when you can join the military are you going to deny american soldiers their right to vote?

Did they change the age? I enlisted my 17th birthday.

I think you have to take a test at 17 but don't actually enlist and go off to basic until age 18, I could be wrong however.

Perhaps. I enlisted in 81 that's 31 years ago, a lot could have changed over that amount of time.
