Should the US negotiate with the terrorist group al-Qaida for the life of Warren Weinstein?

We give billions in foreign aid and additional billions out of the defense budget to Pakistan each year, for their support of the US. Let them earn their support by pressuring Al Qaeda in Pakistan to free Weinstein.

He knew the risks of going over there. I had a offer to go to Iraq for employment years ago, great money but not worth possibly losing your head over.

Simply put, the US has never negotiated directly with terrorist group and we should not start now.

I hate having to answer this way but we cannot negotiate with a terrorist group for any reason. I feel terrible for Mr. Weinstein and his family but we just can't do it. Do we know why Mr. Weinstein was over there? Did he know the risks of being in that part of the world? Not that it's fault but if you go in to an area like this you must be aware of the danger.

I agree with you and have the same regrets but if we are to be shown to be a strong country we cannot nor should we ever negotiate with terrorists.

Personally I say no. I might put this out here for debate. Didn't President's Carter And Reagan negotiate with terrorist?

Neither of them nor any member of our government had 'direct' negotiations with them. It was all done through intermediaries.
