guarding the boarder is the direct defense of the nation so yes

also it would be good to use the people we have put all around the world back over here....not only would putting as much of the military back in the US help keep illegals out it would also lower the spending on oversea bases

Defending our country from foreign invaders is the first, and arguable the only, legitimate duty of the military.

There's plenty of troops that are back here from Iraq and it's the Federal governments job to protect the border. With them there and a shoot foreign invaders on sight ROE the northern flow will come to an end.

Talk about a no brainer. I'd love to see a well documented rundown of the costs illegal immigrants cost the US annually, between schools, lost wages and taxes, prisons, gang costs, etc.

Either the military or an increase in border agents with more firepower. It is the right of any sovereign nation to guard it's borders. Hell, ask Mexico, they have their military along their southern border.

We're not at war with Mexico. This seems like a police action to me. We do need to have a better staffed & equipped border guard though.

Of course, part of the problem is that we have an ineffective & failed immigration policy with respect to our southern neighbors.

First you have to eliminate Mexico as our second largest oil import supplier. There are bound to be thousands of other conflicts of interest between the two countries, not the least of which is free trade for cheaper labor, prevalent in the auto industry having some parts made in Mexico.

Mexico explicitly supports illegal immigration into the US, so they are not going to take it well, if the US gets too aggressive in closing the border to uncontrolled crossings. Culturally they have never conceded that formerly Mexican territory belongs to the US and should be restricted to them.

Why should America let illegals in when Mexico won't let illegals in Mexico? Why should WE THE PEOPLE let illegals do what ever they want?

The military is for killing. If you wish to shoot all intruders, then this is your answer, but if you wish to deal with them as merely trespassers, police is the answer. Let us see a show of hands for those that wish to shoot like dogs, those that merely wish to provide a better life for their family.

The military can be used for killing in a wartime capacity. But to suggest its our only function is a distortion. It is mainly a deterent. Nuclear weapons can be used for killing but are mainly a deterent. In times of war we do what we do.

I'm fairly certain there is no war on the border and thus we cannot be deployed there with weapons. If we are deployed to the borders we can only function as observers without weapons. Call the Border Patrol when we spot people with our high speed observation equipment.

I also don't believe most Americans want to kill all illegals, but rather want to reign in the illegal activity.

I do not want our military deployed on the border without the means to defend themselves. I see no good coming from that either.

It's happened already several times in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California. These were non-law enforcement capacity deployments, read no weapons.

Observation duty and we managed to do it with out killing anyone. Shocking...

I have always said where better to put their bases that train in desert warfare. It wouldn't even have to be where they were taking over Boarder Guard Duties. Just take big parts of that boarder and make them military reserves for training. They would be able to apprehend illegals just as they would Americans that illegally entered Military bases.

NO. Not unless we are going to change teh US Constitution to allow it to do so. Boarder control is the responsibility of state police forces and police force duties are just that police force duties. The US Military is forbidden by the Constitution from preforming police duties.

Now would it be a good Idea... maybe it could back fire if the federal government then wants the military to police its own citizens.... but there are other ways to put the military on the boarder without having them actually on the boarder. we could move a few miltary pots and bases closer and we could have NTC moved from north AZ to south AZ and then have it ramped up to runing 24/7/365 like it use to. Might be hard to cross the boarder during a live fire excerise

Well he wont be in office for ever and STATES do not have to say anything about what they are or are not doing to protect their boarders... theys hould just do it and keep quiet... whats that they say about easier to ask forgiveness then get permission
