Should the United States be the policeman of the WORLD??!!

It's a very expensive endeavor we have taken upon ourselves. It takes a lot of taxpayer money to keep this operation going. Someone's gotta pay for all those military bases overseas protecting the sovereignty of our allies. Making sure that THEIR people are protected from enemy threats.
bases
Furthermore, it takes BILLIONS of taxpayer foreign aid every year to keep everything running seamlessly. Paying off dictators and kings is definitely cheaper than overthrowing their govt, but much more expensive in the long run. Special contracts for them and unfair trading deals for us keeps the relationships stable.

What's really bad is when we have to borrow money to fund these wars/conflicts. Then on top of paying for the war, we have to pay back the interest on the DEBT. And after the mission is complete, we STILL have to rebuild/reconstruct the entire country/region which costs even MORE money, and of course, add them to the list of international welfare, I mean, American taxpayer foreign Aid recipients.hot

I know that someone has to police the world. The world could not run without someone interfering in the affairs of others. Someone has to pick sides during civil wars and enact war-time laws on citizens during peacetime. Someone's soldiers have to go out and fight and die for 'strategic interests', whatever that means (maybe oil, dunno?).
awp
So, my question is, does it have to be us? Maybe if we didn't, then we would not have to spend 25% of our annual budget on military/defense spending. Maybe then, some of that money can go to education (6%), veterans benefits (3%), or go towards paying down the interest on our debt (7%).

What do you think? I want you to join the discussion and vote right now, leave me a comment, reply, share with all your friends, and RAVE!!!!

    World police? No.

Playing a major global role to ensure our allies are safe from attack - and to ensure our interests (and the interests of our close allies) are not stepped on - yes.

Other major powers on the globe will step into any vacuum created by U.S. absence from the world stage....to our detriment, and the detriment of our allies.

You're not the only country providing aid to other countries in need, so don't pretend you're so high and mighty about it. And providing help to allies serves your own purpose. If you're not there for them in their time or need, they won't be there for you in yours. And protecting people who cannot protect themselves can be a noble cause-- look at WWII, wherein the States didn't join in to help until it became personal and when they joined they turned the tides. I'm not saying that you should be the "policeman of the world", just that you shouldn't consider this a black-and-white issue. You shouldn't be just pulling out of everywhere you provide aid-- every foreign base should be considered a case of its own and if you want to cut down on military spending, you have to consider the consequences of pulling out of each case. Would if be basically sentencing many innocents being protected to death? Would you be pulling away from allies and possibly harming your own endeavors in the long run?

No, we've done more than enough in policing the world. We've spent our fortune, we lost our sons and daughters to battles, we can't continue to go on like this. Let other countries spend some money on their own defense! Most other countries spend only a tiny fraction of their wealth on preparing for war or interventions. They spend their money on health care for their people, education, caring for their elderly, the arts and so many other things that benefit their own people. It's time we started doing the same. Let's face it, land wars are going to be a think of the past. Next time it will be jets and rockets. Lights out! Worldwide military spending Worldwide military spending Worldwide military spending

One-third of all US AID goes to Israel and Egypt, neither of which is a developing country. Jordan gets money to leave Israel alone. Pakistan gets money to chase down terrorists but it doesn't. Bosnia gets guilt money. Reparations for our many screw ups there. Columbia gets money to fight drugs. Hasn't made a dent. Mexico, 6th largest producer of oil, gets money.

Corruption is a major problem - many mega funds go to private bank accounts. The leaders get the money, the people get nothing. Many millions went to Haiti. The people still live in squalor.

Yes, back here at the ranch our infrastructure is collapsing as are the schools built in the 50's. Yet tax payers have built new roads and bridges in Iraq. Great health care there ! New clinics! Our Army even built them a zoo with over 500 animals from around te world. Afghan children got new computers. Half were stolen at the airport, so we sent more.

    Sickening.

We have a two party system. Except for the "party faithful" nobody likes the two party system. Unfortunately we can't get rid of the two party system by voting for candidates who have no chance of winning. We could get rid of the 2 party system if state legislatures passed laws that required a run off when no candidate gets 50% plus 1 votes. In this computerized age, it doesn't even have to be an actual new election. We could have automatic run off. If I know that voting for the Green party won't help the republican, then I would vote for the green party candidate. The way it works right now, most of us don't vote for a candidate - we vote against the one we dislike more.

Want to know more about automatic run off?

If you are right then we will see a lot more republicans being elected. In 2000 the shrub "won" by "winning" the electoral votes from the state of florida. According to the official tally he took florida by less than a thousand votes. Ralph Nader got over 2000 votes in florida in that election. The cost of those Green party votes was just too high.

She's a woman who cares about people that have their homes foreclosed upon by greedy banks who caused the problem in the first place.
    That's who she is!!!
I doub't people like yourself care about those who governments screw-ups have affected by leaving them unemployed and those who lost their homes because of our own governments de-regulation of Americas financial system, leaving loopholes for banks and wall street grifters to fleece America.
But some us us do care, and are trying to stop the chaos while others do nothing but shout rantings they know nothing about, and could care less as long as they still have theirs.

And now americans are gong to try to do it again with Romney, but i doub't he has the numbers to pull off the hoax.
And if he doesn't, we are stuck with Obama.
Your screwed no matter what happens, Lol.
And I say YOU, because I changed my life years ago, and will survive any catastrophic events our political leaders bring upon America. I sold everything i had and bought gold at $400 an ounce, which is now worth 4 times what i paid, so I'm good no matter how far society falls, as when society goes into a depression, gold goes up even higher.
So you have a good time when Romney screws your lifestyle.

I also changed my entire life. I moved to a home in the woods and have gardened and canned heavily for the last 2 years. We only eat wild game and food we grow. My vehicles are diesel and I have made my own fuel for 2 years also. I run a diesel generator every other day so my electric bills are at a minimum. My family and myself are well prepared for any event that could happen.
