Should the Southern Poverty Law Center be classified as a hate group?

Here's a quote from Ken Silverstein in the Nov. 2000 Harpers magazine. Dees and company get slammed even from the left for sucking up lots of gullibel money from left wing donners. Silverstien says that deprives legitimate left organization of needed funds.

"Today, the SPLC spends most of its time--and money--on a relentless fund-raising campaign, peddling memberships in the church of tolerance with all the zeal of a circuit rider passing the collection plate. "He's the Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker of the civil rights movement," renowned anti- death-penalty lawyer Millard Farmer says of Dees, his former associate, "though I don!t mean to malign Jim and Tammy Faye." The Center earned $44 million last year alone--$27 million from fund-raising and $17 million from stocks and other investments--but spent only $13 million on civil rights program , making it one of the most profitable charities in the country."

I'm not the only one trying to get Dees into court. Sheriff Mack in Arizona said he was going to file a defamation of character suit against SPLC.
Then there was the gay activist who shot up the Family Research Center in D.C. last week. SPLC had been screaming about FRC being a "hate group", which is what Dees charges everyone on the right with.
I'll give the guy credit for having ba-ls, You don't take on the Clan for 30 years if you're a nervous nelly, but having guts and brains doesn't add up to being wise.

The SPLC has put David Barton on their list of dangerous haters, pressured his publisher until they have pulled books.

David Barton is an honorable and decent man, a historian par excellance.

He's not the only one they are targeting.

As a general rule of thumb if one is pointing the finger at someone else it's because they have three others pointing back at them.

Yes. They are a hate group.

Disgusting people. They identify those groups they disagree with and label them as "hate groups", then disavow the consequences of their irresponsible behavior.
