how should we determine which historical figures one can punish and only get a symbolic fine? Can we destroy Ghenghis Khan statue? Or Andrew Jackson of the Confederacy? I think we need to maintain a "blind" justice and punish all equally when doing vandalism.

Though, I agree that I wish we could actually pay this guy for his actions in some ways :)

It has been done before. The judge can give any fine he chooses. "Blind" justice should not be blind.

that left wing activist needs to pay for the crime that he commited which was destroying property that belonged to someone else.
The wax figure was being used as a reference piece for educational and historic reasons, not promoting war or being a Nazi.

Yes, he should be punished. Regardless of who the wax figure was portraying, he was destroying property that belonged to someone else. The wax figure was being used as a reference piece for educational and historic reasons, not promoting Hitler's ideology. The fact is, he committed a crime and should accept responsibility for that. He doesn't need to be apologetic for what he did, but he does need to accept responsibility for it.

Exactly. Justice needs to ignore the status and individual victim or we will have serious problems determining who gets 'special protection' and who gets no protection. What if he destroyed a figure of Stalin? Mao? Andrew Jackson? GW Bush? etc... We have define the crime as the attack and ignore the target.

I'm not sure...that is a part of history that we ALL need to know and be reminded about in some fashion...although, we don't seem to learn from our mistakes anyway. I don't mind the fact that this guy beheaded the statue...fuckin nazi eugenecist piece of writhing horse shit. Hitler makes me WANT to believe in Heaven and Hell, just so I know that he is in HELL.
