I think they should end welfare AS IT IS and make it workfare, that you have to do a "job" for any money you receive, with the only exceptions being the truly disabled who actually cannot work, not those who do not want to work.

everyone deserves the chance to earn a paycheck. Welfare takes that away.

About 85% of it should be gotten rid of. It was never meant to be permanent anyway!!! It was ONLY to help you get back on your feet IF you were down!!! NEVER meant to be a WAY OF LIFE!!!

Not ended, but it could be reformed to better identify those who are taking advantage of the system. I do not begrudge the many who have a genuine need for welfare.

For corporations and for individuals citizens! There are plenty of charity organizations for those who really need it, and the rest need to find a job! We would also need to eliminate the minimum wage, so everyone could get a job, not matter how minimal their skills! Finally change labor laws, so those teenagers that need to work, can!

My god man are you serious. Get rid of minimum wage and what pay 50 cents a hour instead of $7.25. Either you aren't very sharp or you are greedy and don't want people to be fairly compensated for their work.
Oh you're from Texas. Enough said right there.

Yes I am serious! Let the employee and employer decide! Let people with minimal skills and intelligence work for what they can get! In a free market, people will be compensated "fairly!" Why can't you understand that? Oh yeah, your from the "rust belt"!

People are compensated fairly thats' why the CEO of Viacom worked one year (2006) lost millions of dollars for the company and recieved a golden parachute of $100,839,772. Again Texans aren't the sharpest people in this country or the planet for that matter.

Those "golden parachutes" were made possible by GWB and BHO, taking care of their Ivy League buddies by bailing out their companies. A company that "loses millions of dollars" would fire those executives if not for the government interference! Your resorting to insults and name calling is so typical of what passes for liberal debate! Texas seems to be pretty popular for companies and people, immigrating here at the rate of 1,200 a day for the last 4 years!
  • Giantfan Captame... 2013/03/04 23:34:09

Golden parachutes are made possible by a free enterprise system of private companies who can pay anyone anything they feel like it. Stop blaming Bush or Obama or any other president. My resulting to insults is an accumulation of idiotic responses I have seen from Texans on Sodahead. If you want me to stop stating facts then get better and smarter responses from you and other Texans on here. Not all Texans are stupid or make stupid comments. Hell we have relatives who live in Round Rock and they are some very intelligent people although they migrated south from Conn.

No, "golden parachutes" are given by successful companies to retire that have made the company successful, or in some cases, to RIF the dead wood! You mentioned Viacom, which lost money and yet, with government stimulus money "paid off" those executives that were able to get the most money for their companies (albeit was taxpayers $s). GWB and BHO both advocated the stimuli that made this (and others) possible.

Sounds like you relatives made a wise choice to move here. Are you packing up yet? I love PA, but don't appreciate all the taxes and policies that curtail my ability to maximize profit there. Join MI & IN and make you state more desirable by freeing people to work where they want ("right to work" laws)!

Again what part of working for one year as CEO the company lost millions and the person got over $100 million golden parachute?
Am I packing up to move to texas, hell no. They're still trying to get me to visit them there.
  • Captame... Giantfan 2013/03/05 04:07:38

As I stated earlier, in a truly free market there would be not $100 Million golden parachute for a loser CEO! Only in a government corrupted system would that be possible! As for moving, guess we will just be happy visiting each others' state! I understand you sentiment!

Only if government gets involved. We have a handicapped worker that has worked at our company for the last 32 seasons, but over half of her minimum wage is a government subsidy. She just isn't worth $7.25 and hour, but can give us $4/hr output! Have some compassion on the lower skilled workers!

Not immidiately but it should be imposed immidiately that Tubal Ligation and vacetomies be mandatory to receive benefits for those with 2 or more children.
This is a VERY large problem that compounds itsself, currently, we have those individuals least able to provide for themselves having the most children, those children learn the ways of their parents and do the same thing.

Without welfare people would starve. And to those who want to force people to work, if people can work then give them a job, not force them to work that is forced labour.

I've "needed" it for the last five years. I would rather starve and be homeless than take a gov't hand-out, which would dishonor my parents. So, I will say NEVER!!

Not completely , there are disabled people who can't fend for themselves . On the other hand, there are many deadbeats who should be booted , anyone collecting welfare should have a proven need , otherwise you should be looking for work .

in england we have a tax system that pays for the royals, that pays for politicians to claim for expenses and a goverment that spends millions on advertising its self . and bailing out bankers . when all that sorts itsself out then i will worry about some bums on the welfare
