Bad reasoning. First off when you went to school you probably borrowed about $1000 a semester and could look forward to earning about $5000 in 4 months time. It's not that way now. Second we had the Carter inflation which meant that you were repaying at about 50 cents on the dollar because the amount of the loan didn't change but the amount you got paid per hour did. So you can say you had a lot of your loans forgiven, too.

I finished paying mine off too. Much more recently. I took a degree path that allowed a wide range of career choices, worked hard and didn't expect $80k out of the gate. I worked my way up, waited for luxuries and concentrated on paying my obligations.

Cheap shot? Read your post again. Like I said, I understand your reasoning for wanting your money back for your education.

    Brilliant!!!

If you think about it.t is not a loan. I have been working since 1977. I paid into the system over the last 35 years. Its my money, saved for me. I have never ask a for a bailout or anything in these 35 years. Sound great to me,but then ......

I am not in high school. I am 50 been working since 1977. The only Gov money I ever used was student loan money & not until 1998. Nothing else including unemployment.

Truth is people applied for LOANS and they are required to pay them back. Just like a business loan, if you fail, you fail.

I would vote No if only things would be done to companies who get bail outs, stop outsourcing jobs away from the USA just to save their pensions. They layoff people, over work the ones they got & cut thier salaries. And do not hire.

If I got a job tomorrow,it would going pay for one thing & I would have to choose. Transportation or shelter. I am studying in a field that goes to a real job { Multimedia & Computer graphics},not getting grants for a study degree.

I answered the call. Went back to school,to upgrade my skills, and a job should be there when I graduate. Make sure it happends or pay my school bill.

I stand correct ya. I went back to school during CLINTON's regime.Left in 2000 to care for a father at home til death. Why did i go back. Worked at the same job with no serious increases over a ten year period 8.00 an hour. A friend who went to college got a job & went from 30 to 95,000.00 in that same period.[ Computer Tech Field} Went back to school to make more than the 20,000 a year that i kept getting. { Starting Salary in a Medid Arts Job. $ 35-40.000} More than enough to take care of me & pay the loan back @ $250 amonth) ,with no govment living help.

Okay, we ALL agree that bailouts and farm subsidies and lifelong welfare and all of that is bad, BUT this specific topic is the school loans.

School loans are something you people CHOSE to sign up for, and you sign up to PAY THEM BACK.

    See what the issue is???

So NO on forgiving YOUR personal debt.

I re track & say No.

But I will repeat what I wrote above just now. I paid into the coffers for over 30 years til I took off to take care of my Dad who was gravely ill. Did Not work a job. But I when I see all the banks being bailed out with my money{and we find out that money was being used on golden parachutes},then why not get some of the money{ Hint Might not be a loan} that I paid in,to go to school, get abetter paying job to pay income taxes back into the coffers

And to let you know. I do not collect an unemployment check. Never applied. Never will.

I will say this; the American people bailed out GM, GE and so many other companies who didn't pay it back for the most part. In other countries they are actually teaching their young adults and it doesn't cost 20,000, 30,000, etc.. a year. Meanwhile these kids have enough money to save and invest, instead of drowning in debt as we are doing with ours. People keep stating; "Well I paid mine back." If you look at the charts; college has more than tripled from its past cost. Apples and oranges; it's not the same.

Student/college loans should not be forgiven. It sends the wrong message to young adults that somehow, the govt will take care of them, so if they borrow more than they can afford, it'll be OK and the govt will take care of them and forgive their debt

If you can't afford College there is always Trade schools, or the military which will pay for college.

I answered yes for this reason. If they are going to bail out the banks and such for student loans and I mean they were GOING to. If they had a plan in place etc etc.

Then paying the student loans would be the way to go. Why bailout the banks for the money and allow them to collect on what has already been paid for?
