Should States that fail to balance their budgets lose some of their electoral votes in the Presidential race?

These States with horrible budgets are starting to look like Union Bosses. They have a HUGE influence, on who gets elected, which in turn feeds the beast that is sinking the ship. Should States that don't balance their budgets, or INCREASE their debt from the previously year adding more programs (instead of combing thru their programs and cutting dumb ones), lose some of their voting influence? Would such a law make States REALLY think twice about putting their hand out until they have exhausted all other avenues.

The two items are not and should not be connected

I am against the electoral college. Let the popular vote decide and yes there should be consequences for failure. Like failure to find out what happened to the $2.3 Trillion that Bush and Cheney ripped off from the Pentagon on 911.

ANY legislator or group of legislators unable to balance their budget should be summarily FIRED just like what would happen in the real world.

No, they should be allowed to behave irresponsibly at the cost to everyone.

I think ALL the states should loose their electoral votes and go back to the popular vote. In this age of technology, there is no reason that we can't make EVERY VOTE COUNT!

But you are suggesting that, because my state can't balance a budget, my vote should mean less? I think not.

I don't think the punishment fits the problem.

It certainly would be responsibility square on the shoulders of the politicians wouldn't it? That's why I added if only if they CONTINUE to make it worse. Keeping it the same, even if it's the same deficit, would be a start.

i also wonder if it would break up this click mentality in the State Legislatures... the biggest offender districts wasting money would HAVE to be considerate of all the other districts needs before demanding the moon or special exemptions like Pelosi's district & Obamacare.
