DYN.POLITICO.COM reports:
Rand Paul risks alienating his father’s base as he tries to expand his own. The Kentucky senator, who speaks at the Republican convention Wednesday night, has a younger face and a softer edge, but his name does not guarantee the loyalty of Ron Paul’s most passionate supporters.

Ron Paul has passed the torch to the American people - not a politician.

Liberty isn't a dynasty, it's a choice. Whether or not the American people choose liberty is now entirely up to them.

Rand Paul is not pure enough. Rand is tainted. There was a man- Ron Paul, who did not get to speak at the GOP convention because he would not accept the terms which included a pre-screened speech and endorsing Romney for president. He made clear that he was going along with neither. And then there's Rand who endorses Romney, speaks at the convention- and practically gushes over Romney. In his first endorsement on the news Rand Paul indicated that Romney would make progress on the federal reserve and other issues. Is Rand deliberately lying? We know he is Ron's son and think he might know better. Rand is more likely to stray here and there where his father wouldn't. Ron Paul should encourage his son and indicate support for him and his good efforts and choices. Ron Paul should not however put on biased glasses. Rand is his son but cannot be passed the torch of liberty.

They should keep up the dual campaigning and stick to having similar policies and supporting each other's agendas.

Some comments on this thread say it much better than I can.
We have seen too much nepotism already in a government originally set up for the express purpose of avoiding just that. T. Jefferson was an inspired genius and if you really want to know what the USA is all about just read some of his public writings.

Not only to his son but all libertarian minds. However also notifying it as a torch as miss liberty has it must becoming of walking through darkness in order to hold a torch. As I wander through the bleakness I seek dawn.

I may not agree with many of Ron Paul's economic policies, but even I can recognize that he is all-but unique within the Republican Party. His son, while a relative, is far from being able to step into has father's shoes and would only serve to tarnish his family's reputation; Rand is nowhere as intelligent as his father, and is little more than the average teabagging establishment Republican.

After all, Rand Paul was the one suggested that people should be jailed or deported for attending anti-government speeches and who abandoned his own father during the presidential primary.

He also is the first person I know about since Lester Maddox to ever question the policies of the 1964 Civil Rights act:

Actually, the 2012 Texas Republican Party platform states that they support the complete repeals of the voting rights act and the civil rights act; this means that there are millions of people who support this ridiculous repeal.

Because his Son is an IDIOT. Rand approaches everything with Hatred and discuss, counter to any Progress in this Country.

Ron sounds sensible on somethings and makes sense.

At seventy six , he may not have a choice but while I like Rand I am not as confident in Rand to be as passionate about freedom issues as his father has been. Still, I,d rather have Rand than some socialist type like the Prez.

If he ran on the same platform and ideals as Ron Paul, then I'd vote for him in 2016. But I couldn't be as passionate about another politician.

The only torch that matters is the torch of liberty. Rand will carry his own, or not. His father, Ron, has carried it well, and has handed the torch to the grassroots defenders of liberty, fiscal conservatism, and restoring our republic. It's up to us as activist to change congress, and fight the corrupt two-party system.

The revolution continues. The message was always paramount to the messenger.

As far as retiring goes.. I think it's time Paul went.

The same for many career pols. Senate and the House should not be a career. It should be 4 years. That's it. Game OVER.

Rand Paul made his bed and now he must wallow in it. That is to say, his decision to endorse Mitt Romney (e.g. the Establishment) was political suicide. I certainly do not trust Rand.

What we just learned is that the power lies in the Bankers, Israel, and lobbyists and Ron Paul will never be ALLOWED to win office, and that goes for Rand as well. What I realize now is WE, THE PEOPLE, ARE WHO IS GOING TO SAVE US AND NO ONE ELSE. The system is broken, gone and untrustworthy now. We are on our own, and must begin to act like it, think like it and fix our own lives. Non cooperation and withdrawal from the system is the only way, otherwise we are telling them its ok to rigg elections and violate every single thing we believe in. Our CHOICE TO MAKE. LIBERTY OR DEATH? Careful, our forefathers are watching for our answer? As are all those who died to ensure we remain free. we have an obligation to those who went before us and gave their lives including the 78,000 American soldiers that have died since 9-11 in all those wars. (The children of our nation and were to be the future generation to run it, but they are now all dead and over one million are maimed for life, nice huh? And we say nothing!) Too much fluoride in the water.

Ron Paul has already chosen not to run for re-election. That's passing the torch right there.

I still think Ron Paul should endorse Romney. He may not agree with Romney on everything, but Romney will definitely steer the nation in a far more positive direction than Obama.

Would it be possible for Ron Paul to be nominated Treasury Secretary? Short of that, there's still hope that Ron Paul might still have some advissory influence in a Romney administration. Look how bitter it was between Reagan and Bush Sr. But Bush still was given a seat at the table, and went on to be president.
