At least in Texas, a state Id or Driver's license cost money to acquire. For someone who may be poor and not have enough to get this it hinders them from casting their vote. Every American citizen should be able to vote, without restrictions. If it will make everyone sleep better at night that voters should have ID, then that process should have been started well before an election, especially one as major as a presidential election, the ID should be free and every effort be made to accommodate all of the various circumstances people find themselves in like no birth certificates, no marriage certificate, no drivers license etc.

I didn't mention anyone on welfare. It is possible to not afford things, but you wouldn't know must've been spoiled all your life.

Texas charges you $15 dollars, most people won't go broke paying it. If you still have a problem paying this, and you have no relatives its time to speak privately to your pastor. You are the reason that collection plate is being passed around.

Tell people struggling to keep their house $15 is nothing..

ROFL! Stop trolling here! How does a person without postitive photo id get a mortage in the first place? What bank would deal with a customer that could never cash a check at his own bank?
  • Shawee Chris La 2012/10/31 22:56:10

First I'm not trolling, second...a person that just graduates high school or still in high school thats 18 doesn't necessarily always government issued id. It does cost here in texas.

America is the ONLY first world democracy that doesn't require an ID.. THE ONLY ONE.

If people can't afford an ID them have the Govt issue them one.. In Mexico (the pinnacle of technology that it is) requires a thumb print scanner that brings up a photo ID on a screen that ALSO has to match a photo ID presented in person prior to receiving a ballot. Are you saying that the US is incapable of the technological wonders of Mexico and its effort to ensure the sanctity of the vote?

Why not is the bigger question. You need an ID to travel, cash a check, buy booze or smokes, get into a Democratic Convention, drive a car, go to school, get government assistance... So, I say again why not?

You show your ID when you cash a check, buy certain items, attend certain amusements, and so forth. As a matter of security and as a ward against fraud we accept these things. Who is against this law? And WHY?

We show ID to get on planes, buy liquor and cigarettes and even to pick up kids at school. You have to have one to use government aid for hospital admission. You have to have ID to cash checks, apply for a loan or to verify employment. To say a person doesn't have an official ID in this day and age is to admit that too many people try to slide by without having to contribute.

I think anyone who is American should be able to provide identification that they are an American citizen. Todays world is not like yesterday. Today we have to be more responsible because of terrorism and the times we live in.
If people don't want to show ID that's fine, but they should not be able to change the lifestyles of people who do have ID, and vote for their ideology.
If your to stupid to understand that, then you should not be allowed to vote!

Yupp, but that's going to far.................I won't take my shoes off for anyone.
I have neuropathy of the feet, and can't walk without extreme pain without my shoes on.
So i don't fly anymore. The ID part is nothing, but the shoes......not gonna happen!

Maybe have voters take the same courses those seeking citizenship in this country have to. I am sure that a new citizen to the US knows more about the founding and laws of this country than a large part of the voting public.

Of course they should. The only reason to oppose Voter ID laws is to enable fraud. And that is why the liberals are screaming about this, it is going to get harder to cheat. If I had my way, I would connect the polls to a computer network nationwide, and have everyone have to scan their fingerprint to vote. That way the system knows you have already voted, and you would not be allowed to vote again at a different polling place.
