Should Online Drug Bazaar 'Silk Road' Be Shut Down?

It's every stoner's unicorn-riding-a-dragon dream: a magical one-stop website where every illicit wonder you can imagine is just a click or two away. It's called Silk Road and not only is it a virtual drug bazaar where you can buy everything from pot to heroin, but it also provides reviews from past users on dealers along with photos of their product.

And it all sounds so easy. Once you pick the product you want, you can buy it in an untraceable transaction using digital "bitcoins," which will deliver your cash to the dealer followed by the drugs to your house. Yes, you have to jump through some hoops and download an encrypted Tor browser, which is a bit complicated, but then it's just click-two-three and the tasty buds are on their way. There are even Amazon-like reviews of past transactions that note the packaging and potency of the drugs.

There is, however, this caveat from someone from Bitcoin, who warns that using “crypto-currency” is not that foolproof and actually “pretty damn dumb.”

The transactions are not nearly as secret and untraceable as Silk Road users think and the FBI and CIA -- who track suspicious currency transactions -- are probably already onto this scam and may show up at your door the next time you order a bunch of trippy party favors. You’re giving them your address for cripes sake!

Should this online drug service be shut down?

    Dear Idiots who believe that an illegal drug automatically equates to brain damage;

    http://www.impactlab.net/2007...
    http://web.cgu.edu/faculty/ga...

The vast majority of illegal substances are less toxic than alcohol.

Approximately 100000 die annually from alcohol, 100 from tylenol, OHWELLLOOKATTHAT zero (confirmed reports) from pislocybin mushrooms in the past year.

I WONDER IF PERHAPS PROHIBITION MAY BE A (severe) MISCALCULATION OF JUDGEMENT, HMMMMMM.

heeeeeelll no. I don't like getting stabbed trying to get some sketchy dealer selling me things, it's much safer through the mail. And it's quality stuff too, they have such a large customer base and a good review system that if someone gets ripped off, the seller is banned.

Their gonna get the drugs somewhere. I think ordering them online is a far cry from buying them on the street. Do I agree that anybody with a card should be able to buy dope when ever??? No I do not agree, but I can't stop it. I mean look at the war on drugs program.......wonder how successful they were??

Uh, get over your damned absurdities people, if you have them. The drugs that pharmacies are allowed to freely sell you are not only made from the SAME stuff as black market drugs half the time, but the other half is made from stuff that can kill you ten times easier.Simply look up the contents of your average prescription if you don't believe me.

Most herbal medicines have a "Not Approved by the FDA" disclaimer on them. And yet the FDA has approved many drugs that have had to be recalled. I say the FDA has lost credibility. Drug companies who put these drugs on the market, don't care about those who take them. They care about having a big wallet and I bet they give lots of kickbacks. In my opinion I think the reason they won't make drugs legal is it will cut the crime rate drastically. It will cost law enforcement and the prison system big bucks if this happens. If they find a cure for cancer, it will cost the drug companies and the doctors/hospitals mega bucks. This may sound crazy, but with the technology we have today.... instead of asking when the will find a cure, we should be asking why they have not done so already. drug companies doctorshospitals mega bucks sound crazy technology cure recalled drugs

The drug companies are some of the most powerful entities on the planet, everyone knows that. The FDA will approve whatever they can get away with approving, and the DEA is a front for, well you said it, massive kickbacks people in the government get, from both mafias and cartels.

If you're that stupid you deserve to get caught. Besides the DEA has better things to do than chase down small time users, they'll go after the dealers. And this site seems ideal. *chuckles* Why not make it easier for them?

Isn't that all the DEA tends to bust in reality, is the small timers that are stupid enough to get caught?

If people want to buy and use these drugs, more power to them and they should be free to do it. It is their choice.

If humans want to damage their brains they'll find a way to
do it. We will never arrest our way out of addiction.
We will never be able to control the production and distribution
of illicit drugs. I can only hope we change our battle plan, and
put all our efforts into education and rehabilitation.
Prisons do not deter or rehabilitate humans with drug addictions.
