BP oil disaster site this weekend. The Memorial Day ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.

What do both of those things have in common? Neither one will see President Barack Obama.

While even critics say a president deserves some time off, they question Obamat's agenda for this particular weekend in visiting Chicago.

Pete Hegseth, director of the conservative Vets for Freedom, told Fox News, he doesn't want to "extrapolate too much," but questioned why a war-time president would not pencil in that ceremony.

"It doesn't mean he doesn't care, but I think it is a reflection of priorities," he said. "We're still at war ... and he's not called out to the carpet on that."

Vice President Biden will be in Arlington for the wreath-laying at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Philip Molfese, a Chicago-based Democratic political consultant, also told Fox News, that the president is in constant communication with people related to the oil spill. The president plans to visit the Gulf coast Friday before returning to his home state.

I saw him lay the wreath in the rain.

The families of the fallen should not be placed in danger by a lightning and thunderstorm. I believe those soldiers that are burried there would agree with the Presidents decision to asked them to return to the cars and buses.

Obama went to each of the buses and talked to the families of the fallen.

If the pressures of being POTUS are to much for Obama, than I think the man should retire and find a line of work where he doesn't three and four vacations a year. There are millions of Americans who have positions that create the same level of stress for them as does Obama's job does for him. These people don't get three, and four fully paid vacations that come along with a private plane and a full security staff. Also, I haven't heard of any cease fire in our war on terror being signed. therefore our troops are still in harms way, and the least thing this so called POTUS could do is be there on Memorial day to honor all the truly brave men and woman who make it possible for this phony to live the high life.

Wow. So President Obama has to be there on Memorial Day to honor all the truly brave men and women who make it possible for this phony to live the high life? You must mean he should honor all the truly brave men and women just like Ronald Reagan did, and especially the way that GHW Bush did. Wow. Just think, Alleycat, Reagan had 8 years as President so he had 8 Memorial Day opportunities to attend ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery. But hold on, Reagan only made 4 appearances there on Memorial Day. And GHWB? He had a perfect record. Of sorts. GHWB did not appear at Memorial Day ceremonies at Arlington at all during his 4 years as President. So between the 2 of them they missed a total of 8 Arlington Memorial Day ceremonies out of 12 opportunities. Now that is something you should be proud of.

I imagine you need to rewrite the rules of conduct for US Presidents. The occupants have not shared your fixation with Arlington. The occupants have led the nation. President Obama was at a National Cemetery in Illinois where thousands of US Veterans rest in peace. But you are certain that Lincoln National Cemetery is a Disneyland or something and it is too bad that you are so ignorant. You are certain that by honoring the fallen warriors who rest in other National Cemeteries Obama is being disrespectful to those who rest in Arlington and you are far from correct. It is you who is a phony, not President Obama.

CEO's who run corporations a hundred times smaller than the federal government
get hundreds of millions of dollars in salaries and stock options (even if they run the company into the ground). The President isn't compensated in any way near what the position and responsibility are actually worth.

Hold on. You know for sure that "every other President pays his respects in Arlington"? You are some kind of historian? There was a man by the name of Ronald Reagan, and he was elected President. Twice. Ronnie skipped the Memorial Day ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery not once, not twice, not three times, but four times. Then there was a man by the name of George Herbert Walker Bush, and he was elected President. Once. Georgie skipped the Memorial Day ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery a whopping 100% of the times he could have attended, which for your edification means Georgie did not go there at all as President. So you can take your falsehoods to your closest golf course and play with yourself.

Not true at all. Ronald Reagen went to Arlington 4 times in 8 years.

GW Bush NEVER went to Arlington on Memorial day in 8 years in office.

The only president to go to Arlington every memorial day while in office was President Bill Clinton.

He should "retire" like so many other of his democrat buddies. The "Pres" seems to have plenty of time for Golf, Basketball, meetings with basketball teams and the leader of SEIU. He can't seem to find the time to explain to the American people why he is working so hard to ruin the country.

Take a close look at whose in bed with BP - Pelosi. Isn't it time we all stop playing party politics and take back the country. Throw the bums out.

How appropriate to see your avatar on this Memorial Day. I remember well Ronald Reagan and how he disdained appearing at Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Days. Reagan attended Memorial Day ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery just 4 of the 8 Memorial Days that he was President. And his successor, GHW Bush learned from Reagan, and GHW Bush disdained appearing at Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day each of the 4 Memorial Days that happened while he was President. So between the two of them they were only able to make 4 appearances out of 12 opportunities. I guess they had plenty of time to watch TV and meet with their buddies.

Remember just before Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans and even after
the governor of Louisiana declared an emergency and asked the Bush regime for help,
how Bush stayed on vacation and even flew out to Arizona on Air Force One to cut birthday cake with John McCain, ignoring the calls form the governor?

That was Bush's response to the hurricane and you complain about Obama?

Speaking about being in bed? Remember Bush's Interior Secretary, Gale Norton?
She was hired by Royal Dutch Shell after leaving the Bush cabinet.
Boy, she must have really been in bed, huh?

And the Minerals Management Service part of the Interior Department?
Total corruption under Bush and Norton with drugs and prostitution and
endless gifts to government people. MMS even went so far as to allow
the oil drillers to write their own reports in pencil and then the MMS people would trace over them in ink and submit them as true documents.

Of hand I'd say that Bush and Norton were directly responsible for this disaster
since they exercised no oversight of the oil drilling industry but let them do
    any damned thing they pleased.

    Republican administrations=disaster.

Obama should thank all vets and pay his respects to the brave men and women, that have given their lives for freedom, every day of his miserable life. Without their unselfish bravery, a satanic, anti-Christian, muslim, could have never become president. Without their unselfish, bravery, fighting for liberty and democracy, this Arab sympathizer would not be able to try to bash and slash the constitution. It is inexcusable, for the president, to snub veterans. It goes to show that once a non-America born muslim, becomes president, his true colors rise to the top and they are not Red, White and Blue; May God have mercy on those that have died for this great country!

Wow. So President Obama is snubbing veterans by not appearing at Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day? President Obama is going to be appearing at Memorial Day services at Lincoln National Cemetery in Illinois where thousands of veterans lie at rest. And of course you know the history of Ronald Reagan and George HW Bush and how they snubbed veterans of Memorial Days while they were President? Reagan only went to Memorial Day services at Arlington 4 of the 8 times he could have gone, and GHWB refused to make even one apprearance out of the 4 times he could have gone.
Those two men did not thank our vets and pay their respects to the brave men and women that gave their lives for freedom every day of their miserable lives on 8 of the 12 times they could have done so.

No, I did not know that! They were wrong. What I do know is that Obama is not going to honor the sacrifices, of those brave Americans, he is going for publicity. He is all about an image. His shiny, golden-calf, image has tarnished. The past is gone, my friend. We are in the now, and the now has a lying, deceitful, dishonest, greedy, anti-constitutional man for a president. I ask, are you not tired on trying to defend him? Suspend your disbelief and look in your heart, you know.
  • askmike jaeman 2010/06/02 02:19:44

Sure. President Obama attended Memorial Day ceremonies at Arlington in 2009 and at Lincoln National Cemetery in 2010. GHWBush did not go to Arlington or any other National Cemetery on any of the 4 Memorial Days he was in office. You stated "it is inexcusable for the President to snub veterans" and you know that President Obama did not snub veterans but that GHWB did. You are not a man of your stated convictions. And how can you reasonably claim that Obama is not going to honor the sacrifices? He went and brought wreaths both times. He went and gave a speech both times. But GHWB sat on his butt all for years he could have honored the sacrifices of our war heroes. So it is you who is suspending your disbelief, not I.

The real pity in all this is that the nearly four thousand American
soldiers who died in Bush's reelection war did not die for this country.
They died for Bush and for the neocon agenda of the "permanent
    Republican majority."

Bush and Cheney and that traitorous bunch squandered the lives of these brave people
for reasons other than defending America. A crying shame. Bush and Cheney should pay
a price for that treason, but never will.
