Campaign finance laws require disclosing political campaign contributors. President Obama has decided to use this transparency to "out" donors to his political opponent, Mitt Romney. The Obama campaign shamed donors for "betting
against America," and accused them of having a "less-than-reputable" record.
Theodore Olson, the former U.S. solicitor general criticized the Obama campaign: "We don't tolerate presidents or people of high power to do these things... When you have the power of the presidency—the power of the IRS, the INS, the Justice Department, the DEA, the SEC—what you have effectively done is put these guys' names up on 'Wanted' posters in government offices."

against America," and accused them of having a "less-than-reputable" record.
This past week, one of [Obama's] campaign websites posted an item entitled "Behind the curtain: A brief history of Romney's donors." In the post, the Obama campaign named and shamed eight private citizens who had donated to his opponent. Describing the givers as all having "less-than-reputable records," the post went on to make the extraordinary accusations that "quite a few" have also been "on the wrong side of the law" and profiting at "the expense of so many Americans."

In The Wall Street Journal, Potomac Watch columnist Kimberley Strassel notes Barack Obama's attempts to intimidate contributors to Mitt Romney's presidential campaign.

Calling the posting of documented factual information an attack seems to indicate that someone is afraid of the truth, and that the cries about "transparency" are just another example of conservative hypocrisy.

Of course, Obama had better make sure each and every major contributor to his campaign is squeaky clean, or it's liable to backfire on him!

Conservatives never tire of condemning George Soros for donating to Democratic candidates and liberal causes, but he does not try to hide his largesse as do the Koch brothers and the other shady characters, including foreign corporations. They prefer to operate in the shadows while Mr. Soros likes the bright sunlight. Reporting facts is not usually considered a nefarious device. It is called open and honest politics.
Ted Olson is a lifelong Republican and Kimberley Strassel writes for Rupert Murdoch.
Do you think the president should personally attack contributors to his political opponents?
The right loves to attack George Soros for contributing to Democratic candidates and liberal causes, but they miss the point. Mr. Soros operates openly and does not try to hide any of his donations, as opposed to people like the Koch brothers, who prefer to operate in the shadows.
The president clearly wants to call out his political opponents and intimidate them -- and scare others from donating.
Why does the Left defend political intimidation?
So you are saying exposure to daylight is intimidating? My donations are listed and are public record, but I do not feel intimidated. Why are corporations contributing to super PACs supposed to be anonymous? Why are we not to know who is giving what amount to whom? Why should we not know who those 200 donors are, who have the power to control our elections?
Don't you think the donors are already, to a certain degree running the nation when lobbyists rather than elected representatives are crafting our legislation?
