Should Mitt Romney Release His Tax Returns?

Harry Reid, the Democratic Senate Majority Leader, has made it very clear that he has a "reputable source" telling him that Mitt Romney has not paid taxes for a time period of about ten years -- and that he wants the Republican presidential candidate to prove with tax returns that he has. Do you think all this tax-return talk is integral to the election -- or is it just a distraction?

NYDAILYNEWS.COM reports:
Mitt Romney strongly denied Sen. Harry Reid's repeated, insistent claims that he did not pay taxes for a decade during a press conference in the Senate Majority Leader's home state of Nevada on Friday. "I have paid taxes every year, and a lot of taxes, so Harry is wrong," Romney said.

I have more interest in seeing Obama's school records!

He's rich, uh, so? Obama's rich, uh so?

This was brought up only so that Americans go down this road rather than look at the issues, ones Obama has failed at solving.

retards can't remember or research the fact that Romney's returns were submitted for review by the McCain campaign through 2007. Remember Mittens was passed over for Sarah Palin. That's a clue.
Ron Paul gets more support from active duty military than all other candidates combined, note RP gets 71%, Mittens gets 8%. http://www.ronpaul.com/2011-0... What, did your patriotism and support for the troops blow into the ditch with your plastic window flags a few weeks after 911? Ask yourself why men and women whoo put their lives on the line in support of their countries ideals vote with their wallets for a man who espouses a ," just march out" approach to the current farce of war and 10 years of occupation of two dirt poor third world nations that require 300% more money to defeat than the soviet union, who was brought to a stalemate and bankrupted with a $200 billion annual defense budget. Why does it require $600 billion to combat Iraq and Afghanistan, when the Soviet Union had over 14,000 deliverable nuclear weapons, and now we're spending $600 Billion to fight barefoot, dirt floor living pashtun tribesmen straddling the afghan / paki border? are you all retarded?

It's a distraction that he won't. If he's got nothing to hide then there is no reason not to. I would think his own father would advise him to just to move on. He thinks people will just forget about it but that isn't going to happen so you'll just have speculation like Harry Reid.

Harry Reid is an idiot. This subject is a moot point. On Mitt's website there are 500 pages of his tax returns dating back to 2002. I don't understand why this is even as issue.

Everything the Democrats do now is about distraction from their failed policies, no budget in over 3 years, no economic growth, and the looming deficit, that will allow no new jobs to be created. All smoke and mirrors don't pay attention, its time to get America back on track. R&R; 2012.

Should Obama release his college/birth records, etc.? If the answer to one is yes, the answer to the other is yes. If the answer to one is no, the answer to the other is no.

Why does Obama need to release his birth certificate (he has, by the way)? No President has had to release their birth certificate or college records, and it's racist to claim he not American based on the color of his skin. Don't you dare try and claim that it's not racist, because you know damn well that if he was white, this discussion WOULDN'T be happening. He graduated from Harvard, so he's obviously intelligent.

Mitt Romney is refusing to do something that every Presidential candidate in the recent past has done. Barack Obama has nothing to prove, but Mitt Romney has something to hide.

The person jumped to conclusions too fast, and their anger was probably not meant for you. However, Obama has had to do more things to prove he's american than any other president in history. That would not have been the case if he was "white."

This is an excellent, well-reasoned response. I disagree about the disparity on account of Obama's 'non-whiteness' but I can let that go in this instance. :-)

Besides, my biggest beef is not so much with the man as with the office.

FDR did what needed to be done at the time, but that power never went away after he died. Nixon's Watergate helped bring the presidential power down a bit, but not enough, I agree.

Side note: Ironically enough, FDR started the presidential term limit law, which leads me to believe that he saw the danger of the president having so much power.

    Really?!?

You claim that "Obama has had to do more things to prove he's American than any other president in history." And just exactly WHAT has Obama been required to do that no "other president in history" has??? The ONLY requirement that has been made of Obama was that he PROVE that he was LEGALLY ELIGIBLE to be POTUS and he INSTEAD spent more than a MILLION DOLLARS in an attempt to HIDE his birth records, instead of simply releasing them!!!

However, when John McCain's birthplace and eligibility for POTUS came into question, McCain IMMEDIATELY released ALL of his birth records, and VERIFIED his eligibility, Obama did NOT!!!

Your insipid second claim, "That would not have been the case if he was "white.", is utterly preposterous!!! This had NOTHING to do with the color of Obama's skin or John McCain's birth records would never have come into question, it would have ONLY been Obama's!!!

Really, you think that any other president had to show others their birth records? Or long form birth records? Or have been requested to show their grades from college? None. The answer is none. Eisenhower didn't Register his birth until the age of 62, with his older brother signing as a witness (his brother was a toddler at the time of Ike's birth). before that you verified with baptismal records, with Obama does not need to release since he already released his long form birth certificate.

And if you truly believe color has nothing to do with this, then where are Romney's birth records? Because his father was a citizen of Mexico and was not born in the US, so under the same terms as the Obama accusations, he isn't allowed to run the party either. But I do not see a single person talking about that.

I'm not talking specifically about you, buddy. I'm talking about the birthers as a whole. If Obama was white, they would not exist. Well, there'd be the same amount of them as there are Romney birthers.
