Sorry this question made me laugh! Technically, the gator should be arrested for grievous bodily harm and theft :P

There are particular times when someone has been punished enough and doesn't need to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Sure he did something wrong, but loosing his hand is enough punishment.

They should charge him just so it is on record, then let him off without any further penalty. I think losing his hand is punishment enough.

And for the record, I would bet the law is stupid in the first place.

If a pigeon attacks me and steals my bread I did not feed the pigeon, I was robbed by it. I do not believe the man willingly gave up his hand as food for the alligator, so no he should not be charged for feeding an alligator.

    "Charged"? No. Blamed? Yes.

I was reading an interesting story about the days of the Roman Empire. It went something like this:

A man was getting shaved in a public ground. As his barber was shaving him, a kid kicked a ball that knocked the barber's hand and caused him to slice his customer's throat. To the Roman Judicial System, who was to blame? Was it the child for kicking the ball? The Barber for cutting the customer? None of the above. It was the man's fault for getting shaved in a place where something like that could happen.

The libs don't like laws like that, can't have people being responsible for their own behavior. Esp not gun owners.

When I was a kid we swam with the gators. They were afraid of people and would flee the sight of humans. Idiots like these are responsible for the alligator becoming aggressive.

Feeding an alligator is pretty stupid But I think he paid the price isn't there some other criminal that would be better off pursuing? Our court systems are so screwed up they need a complete overhaul!

Maybe if he wasn't such an idiot in the first place and fed the alligator, the cops would be free to pursue bigger criminals

Did they have to destroy the Alligator? Are they still endangered? If yes then maybe he should have to pay. If the alligator walked up on him then maybe not but he was a tour guide and should have known better.

i think he's suffered quite enough. in case they haven't noticed he only has one hand now! life is going to be quite a bit more challenging for him. the charges wouldn't even compare.

It's much like charging a jaywalker after he gets struck by a vehicle -- he DID put himself at risk in the first place.

I can't see where it serves the public or how a fine/jail time is going to teach the man anything that having a hand bitten off didn't.

Does for me. No point in punishing someone who has already been punished. Exactly what can the courts do that would a) stop him doing it again b) punish him more than he's already been punished c) reconciliation? No harm was done to the croc, in fact the croc was fed.
