Should Lt. Col. Shalom Eisner (who struck a Danish anti-Israel activist) have been removed from his command by the IDF?

By now, the video of Lt. Col Eisner of the IDF striking a Danish anarchist activist has gone viral all over the Internet.
Before any investigation could take place, events verified, or even Eisner's version of events heard, the entire Israeli military and political hierarchy condemned him. Within a day of that, he was removed from command and severely punished.
Regardless of the specific details of the incident, which believe it or not looks like a minor occurrence in the day to day battles between the IDF and hostile groups, it is clear Eisner was quickly ousted due to political reasons without proper due course.
An incident must be judged in context, and on its own merits alone, and not due to PR or political considerations. The men and women in uniform who put their lives at risk to defend Israel from annihilation by a surrounding hostile Arab world deserve to know their commanders "have their back", and will not throw them to the wolves for political expediency. HITLER IS DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!WHO EVER OUSTED HIM OUT ARE A-SSSSSSSSSS KISSERS.TO ME PUBLIC OPINION MEANS NOTHING,AS AN EXEMPLE TAKE AMERICAN POLITICIANS LIKE OBAMA!!!
Second, Israel is dealing with people whose stated objective is to remove them from the planet with as much prejudice as possible. In my opinion, just about *any* response is justifiable under those circumstances. If I tell you that I want to kill you and start shooting at you, then you are completely justified in shooting back. End of story.
Third, the protesters may feel self righteous going up against a bunch of military people with guns, but come on - would you be that sure of yourself that you're willing to stand up to a bunch of people with guns when you're unarmed? That's just stupid. One of my favorite sanity checks is to ask how the perception would change if the identities were reversed. In this case, what would I think of a bunch of Israeli protesters in, say Syria taunting a bunch of armed military people? I'd say they were pretty stupid and wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of them ended up dead. And unlike Israel, Syria's neighbors haven't declared war on it. The protesters failed the stupid test here.

I think Lt. Col. Eisner probably overreacted a little and should get the normal PC punishment - make him sit through some sensitivity training (sorta like a timeout - that's all any PC training is worth). Other than that, he's a hero for defending his country. I salute him and spit on the protesters.
there were many cameras there recording in plain sight, including IDF cameras. If there was anything at all they could use in Eisner's defense they would have shown the clips immediately

Bottom line is that protestors need to take responsibility too. They are NOT innocent bystanders -- they are instigators attempting to initiate a reaction. Simply busting one in the mouth isn't grounds for dismissal especially given the historical context in which Palestinians actively engage in killing innocent Jewish civilians.
It is always much easier to be dispassionate and objective when someone else is the target. And as usual, there is no context. Not all the information is in and again -- protestors are active participants not innocent bystanders minding their own business.
Only in America.
Everywhere else around the world, including in Israel, people are told the truth about the Israeli occupation and subjugation of the Palestinian people.
The Danish man, as quoted in The Guardian paper:
While volunteering for the International Solidarity Movement (ISM) in the West Bank over the past six weeks, Ias says he has witnessed "a process of ethnic cleansing that has been going on since the start of the occupation".
"I've seen people whose homes have been demolished in the middle of the night by dozens of soldiers, people who are left with nothing. I've seen Bedouin villages without running water or electricity next to Israeli settlements with total control over water resources. I've seen people denied their basic human rights and any hope for the future. You can't experience that without it changing you."

This was an organized attempt by the 'Palestinians' and their groupies from the International Solidarity Movement(ISM) which fully supports terrorism and violence against Israeli civilians to block a major highway. Route 90.
A traffic jam in Israel in that area is a very different animal than one in say, suburban Philadelphia or Los Angeles. Highway 90 is the main north-south road through the Jordan Valley. You have a line of cars trapped who are sitting ducks for Molotov cocktails, sniper fire or stones through the windshield, stones had actually started to be thrown by 'Palestinians' collaborating with the ISM 'activists' in the area, and it would only have gotten worse the longer it went on.

There were only six IDF soldiers present to face a mob of over 200 'Palestinians' and 'activists', and Lt. COl Eisner sustained a broken finger and injuries to his wrist from them. In that situation, you need to get the road cleared ASAP. He definitely saved some of the people trapped in their cars from severe injuries and likely saved some lives.
BTW, just for context, let's see how Denmark treats unarmed 'protesters' blocking a road:
