Should LEGAL immigrants who become a burden on our society be deported?

Have a family in our town that has a reputation for abusing the court system, filing baker acts on each other and having each other committed to mental health facilities. They are constantly back and forth with domestic violence issues and civil lawsuits. As well as being arrested for theft, burglary, drugs and battary.

Should there be a limit to what our society will tolerate from immigrants here legally? When they are known to all the court clerks, police, mental health professionals and jail staff, isnt it time to say that they have worn out their welcome and have proven that they should not be allowed to stay?

How did they get a permanent green card, the first 2 years are probationary/conditional.
Would have thought if they are that bad it would have surfaced from the beginning. However if they can't behave we should send them a-packing.

They come here (or are born here) living off of us. We have it bad enough paying all the lazy American citizens let alone all these illegals. They are criminals. If they cannot support themselves in a legal manner, then bye. They sell drugs, are in gangs, commit robberies, rape, murder and then we end up paying for their life in prison.

Why the mean spirited question? They came for the same reasons our for-fathers came. If they became citizens and are having problems they are one of us and should be treated as equals under the law and as human beings.

it isnt mean spirited. It is a question, as immigrants they seek to become citizens (usually) or benefit from our society. If they choose to be unproductive or criminal, why should we choose to accept them into our society?? They are they ones seeking (asking) to join us, should we not have some standards? Shouldnt we be able to say no if they cant beahave?

    How is that being mean?

if they are truly legal, send them packing off to jail just as we would any other citizen...or off to civil hearings

Not great choices here so I will temper this with saying u really have to take it case by case. R they trying to carry their weight or r they lazy and happy just living off the state? We r all struggling through this recession it would be wrong to deport folks that r struggling to make it too. Somehow we need to weed out the deadwood without punishing those that r just falling on hard times. Americans r a compassionate people overall. I think most folks that think this through will see this is a more complex issue than the question fully alludes to.

I'm not an immigration attorney but I believe many of the privileges granted by immigration law are CONDITIONAL. Violate the conditions and your ass should get the boot.

We are not hosts to LEGAL immigrants. We are citizens of the same nation.
Personally, I don't have a problem with "deporting" all career criminals and those who are violent. But, they, LEGAL immigrants, are citizens and we deal with them according to our laws.

Xenophobia is an irrational fear of foreigners. If someone violates the conditions of their immigration it is not irrational to deport them, Master Debater.

recognizing criminals and mental defectives is NOT irrational and if they seek to become citizens or to stay here we should rationally take such thnigs into account.

if they are legal we obviously created that monster by allowing immigration and citizenship applicants, otherwise it would be ok to send them home, but now that we have created that monster, they will probly be leaving soon anyways, as the american dream is nothing more than a dream an illusion, not real never was but its really fading now

if they are not citizens, why should we continue to tolerate bad behavior? We should make the stay of all immigrants based upon good behavior

If they are LEGAL... then they have a right to all the support usually provided as a safety net. Anyone can fall on hard times, especially with BHO and the Democrat Party in charge.

I picked a random "yes" because I generally agree and certainly agree that the family you mention should be ousted, BUT, I would say that someone here as more than a resident alien should be subject to the criminal justice system of the USA, too.

I am answering this question as if it was my own country (before you Americans kick up a fuss about an Australian jumping in on your politics).

Legal immigrants are Citizens, or atleast people here on a visa, we cannot simply kick them out because they are a burden.
Whats next? Deporting natural born criminals?

I am also completely for amnesty of illegal immigrants, meaning that they should be covered under medicare (like every Australian citizen), provided free schooling, etc.
Illegal immigrants and especially child illegal immigrants should also have the chance to apply for citizenship (or national subject status) after a certain amount of time (5 years for children, 10 for adults) in the country.

It actually isn't, one is my personal opinion on how immigrants should be treated, the other is how immigrants are currently treated.
How they are currently treated does not effect my opinion on how they should be treated.

Alot of our current immigration laws are relatively new (Howard government) and were created during a massive right wing "boat people" scare tactic, and many of the laws are being reformed now.
