Should kids be allowed to wear their hair however they want?

Well that is their culture and their prerogative.

Culture and prerogative.ummmmmm Well ,,then when he is getting teased and picked on,because he looks like a FREAK!!!!!,,,then nothing should happen to the other 6 YEAR OLD KIDS!

Yes, because 6 year old kids understand the norm of society...

This is why you start to teach them to be individual thinkers. Not a hive mind.

Sorry,,,,The majority of kids know what is weird and uncalled for. Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Worked for me.

It is reasonable to prohibit undue distractions at school.

At this point in my life ( 44 ) I would not dress like that but back when I was a teen in the 80's it was fun. Enjoy dressing like that while you can because the time will come when it is not very beneficial ( I hate conforming ).

Parents need to see that the child is not leaving the house looking bizarre. Don't give me that crap about just doing their own thing and needing to be themselves. How you kid looks when he /she leave the house tells me a great deal about what kind of home they come from. And how's that for a very, very, liberal person.

Sure if you want to indoctrinate your children that is your problem. If people want to allow their children to learn how to make their own decisions and have a mind of their own, that is their problem. I don't think how a person looks shows what kind of home they live in. My family is Ultra Religious and conservative about their looks. I, on the other hand preach Atheism and I wear all sorts of crazy clothing. I have a SAFETY PIN through my ear that is just a smidgen of all the crazy stuff I do.

i think the hair is the best way to be individual, and make a statement, and can hardly be offensive as well. the only problem i have is when everybody else copies one person, so they have to change again because it is no longer original...

They look like circus freaks. If you want to look like that join the circus. "Oh, they are just expressing themselves, yeah and all turning into lesbians, thanks to social networking sites letting people under 18 use them.."

If they have no intention of telling anyone they are my kids, or ever being seen with me, then it's fine. There is no way I would admit that was my daughter (the one in the picture you posted).
