I think so, he deserves it for killing those people.

Lock him up for the rest of his life, but, with the exception of immediate self defence, I simply can't see it as right to kill.

Murdering a murderer is not the answer.

I think he shouldn't have left the crime scene alive to begin with. Scum like this who attack innocent people forfeit their right to live.

NO ONE deserves a death penalty. NOT ONE PERSON.

Why is this concept so hard to grasp?

"Let's punish people for killing other people by killing those people!!!"

NO! Get your hands off the switch, put down that lethal injection!

Don't you see what's going on here? We are punishing killing BY killing! Don't we then have to kill those people? Then those people? Then those? How about we STOP killing? Let's stop providing a quick and occasionally painless ESCAPE from their crime!

When somebody does something wrong, there are a few things we SHOULD be doing.

    1. Figuring out how it happened.
    2. Figuring out WHY it happened.
    3. Figuring out how to PREVENT it in the future.
    4. Figuring out what's wrong with the person.
    5. Figuring out how to fix the person.
6a. If fixed, figuring out how to add them back into society.
6b. If not fixed, see step 5.

We are NOT supposed to be punishing people for the sake of punishment. Are any of you aware of the fact that prisons are also called CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES? We are supposed to be CORRECTING problems, not locking them away or removing them!

This is the 21st century. Get out the the dark ages and start HELPING society, not hurting it.

First off I oppose the death penalty in all situations but I think there is a real good chance this guy is going to rank high on the mental defect scale.... Death penalty does not bring back the murdered and it doesn't demonstrate the respect for life that we say we aspire to as a society.... We're one of the few OECD countries to still practice state murder but that doesn't seem to reduce our murder rate one bit.

He should be made to suffer for as long as possible and the death penalty belongs in the Middle ages-although Stalin and Hitler thought it a good idea too.I am not sure whether Holmes is mentally ill or not or just downright evil and If proven criminally insane then it's off to Bridgewater State Hospital for a start.

..and is cheaper than feeding convicted murderers and paying for their upkeep whether in Psychiatric care or not.One thing for sure the death penalty is not,and that is-as a deterrent. Its just a left over from the minds of the Dark ages, but at least burning at the stake has been abolished..

Yeah I heard and read about that theory too-are various estimates around and as usual all depends which one we want to claim is credible. But whatever,Justice should not be influenced by money..that's the theory anyway!.

Two wrongs do not make a right. Better to find out exactly why he did this. He may have a mental condition. Killing him will not solve anything.

two wrong may not make a right but a man who kills children in cold bloods deserves the same fate mental condition or not. If people are so concerned with his mental condition what about the people that he terrorized. This was not something he did on a whim thas was a planned assault on innocent people. I don't know if you have children or a family but if you do what would you feel if it was them?

I am not against punishing this person. But killing him is not going to bring those people back. I don't believe in giving the government ultimate power over its citizens, Sorry.

you would rather pay for his room and board I think not. I would rather save the money for something more important like lets say getting the nation out of debt.
I never said I believe in giving government ultimate power and by killing him it would not be giving government power it would be in powering the people because he will be tried by a jury not by the government.

Costs more to kill a man then it would be to keep him in prison for life. Your argument is moot and in fact counters the statement you made about getting the United States out of debt. It's ok though, I understand you did lots of research before you posted your remark.

Putting someone to death is not cheap. There are stats that say it is costs more to put someone to death than to keep them locked up. Others disagree with these stats. Regardless, I am not willing to give gov. ultimate control. Guess I am just not for big government like some are. I mean how much bigger can you get than to give government control over your life?

Some people make sacrifices for their families because other wise we would not be able to provide for them. When your mother has cancer and theres no other way to help pay for her treatments you will do just about anything to help her. I made my sacrifice for her and guess it paid off because she is still living. Life is about circumstances.

Can't really argue with that. The person who did the shooting could have serious mental problems. Would not be surprised if he is a Vet who has whatever they call it today. Or he could be a druggie, an alcoholic, or someone suffering from a concussion.

no not a vet… lol but crazy maybe.(PTSD is more of an internal struggle than an outward delusion someone with PTSD would more than likely kill themselves to stop the suffering) I think it was more brilliance led to madness… but still if you saw it from the point of view of the mother who lost her six year old little girl or the woman who's boyfriend covered her to shelter her from bullets you would want him Dead. Revenge is a natural human reaction.

I do not blame victims from wanting revenge that is a natural reaction. Society on the other hand should be acting on a non emotional, logical basis. When permission is given to kill one person, it can be given to kill anyone.

Now you lower the United States to the Iranian standard of living? Why don't you go live over there if you like it so much
