Some schools place limits on how much skin a girl can show -- how short her skirt is, etc. -- but Calvert High School in Maryland is trying to flesh out how that applies to one student's unique take on the dress code. Warren Evans, a bisexual student at Calvert High, was suspended for wearing a skirt, and he says it doesn't violate the school's dress code.
Evans told NBC Washington, "I don't think [it violated the dress code]. Why not? It didn’t say anywhere in the code of conduct or dress code that says boys can't dress like girls ... Some people aren't tolerant of that type of thing." Officials have not commented publicly on the situation, but say the dress code is not gender-specific. Some parents have sided with the school, arguing that boys in dresses would be a distraction. Do you think guys should be allowed to wear skirts during school hours?

2. Being gay isn't a birth defect.
3. There is nothing that makes skirts inherently 'female'. People also used to find it offensive for women to wear pants. Before that, people found it offensive for women to go to school. 'People find it offensive' isn't an argument.
Now, 40 years later it's perfectly acceptable for a lady to wear pants, and even to dress in drag. I'm well aware of this, I've been out in drag plenty of times and not a single person paid any attention to the fact I wore coats and shirts specifically marketed towards men.
Yet, if a man were to do the opposite all of a sudden it becomes a big deal. Why? Because it's a distraction? Anything is a distraction if you draw attention to it, but if it's otherwise left alone you'd be surprised about how non distracting a lot of things are. Hats, for example, are seen as distracting but they're not. If you wear a hat to school the only who'll be commenting on the fact you're wearing a hat are the teachers, everyone else is going to pay attention to what they want to pay attention too. Why? Because hats are everyday, we always see people wearing hats, it's not a big deal.
The same with colored hair, people will tell you that going to school with crazy hair...

The same with colored hair, people will tell you that going to school with crazy hair is a distraction. I had my hair half shaved and died vivid purple and it wasn't a distraction. My nose is pierced, another thing that people would call a distraction, and I get very few comments, if any, on it.
But back to men wearing skirts, I have better question to ask, WHY is it a distraction? I once heard an argument that skirts are better suited for men because a penis and testicles are considerably more bulky than a vulva and a skirt meant more room. From a looked at a practical view point that makes a lot of sense, granted I lack both a penis and testicles, I certainly know that when I wear pants that are too tight around my pubic area it's definitely uncomfortable, I would expect it to increase your genitalia was more bulky. But it's not okay, it is a distraction, a boy got suspended and is known across the country now because he wore a skirt.
Does he really deserve this kind of extreme reaction for wearing a skirt? Does he really deserve to be beat up because he's wearing a skirt? Doe the other boys have a right to treat him with disrespect and malice because he's wearing a skirt? Why isn't drag appropriate for men, but appropriate for women?
