Some schools place limits on how much skin a girl can show -- how short her skirt is, etc. -- but Calvert High School in Maryland is trying to flesh out how that applies to one student's unique take on the dress code. Warren Evans, a bisexual student at Calvert High, was suspended for wearing a skirt, and he says it doesn't violate the school's dress code.

Evans told NBC Washington, "I don't think [it violated the dress code]. Why not? It didn’t say anywhere in the code of conduct or dress code that says boys can't dress like girls ... Some people aren't tolerant of that type of thing." Officials have not commented publicly on the situation, but say the dress code is not gender-specific. Some parents have sided with the school, arguing that boys in dresses would be a distraction. Do you think guys should be allowed to wear skirts during school hours?

If guys should not be allowed to wear skirts, then girls should be required to wear skirts, dresses, high heels and pantyhose and be prohibited from wearing any form of pants. Why the double standard (OK for girls to dress like boys but not the other way around)? BTW that is me in my avatar made up as a woman! We are probably seeing the beginning of what happened 50 years ago when women shocked our culture by wearing traditionally male clothing (pants) and initially it took time to accept but we got over it!

If it doesn't violate the dress code I don't see a problem with it. Yeah it can be a little distracting but after the first few times he does it people will get use to it. I knew a guy in college that wore mini skirts with leggings and heels all the time.

Hell no! This is one of the many reason a dress code comes in to play. What the hell is happening to America? No son of mine would leave my house in a skirt or dress for HS, this is crazy. A kilt, not a skirt

Just one question if you are a woman: Do you wear pants? If not, good for you! If so, why is it OK for you to dress like a man but not allow your son to dress like a woman? If you are a man, do you allow your daughters to wear pants? If not, good for you! If so, why the double standard?

For the dummy A KILT not a skirt. Pants can be for ladies and men. Pants keep people from looking up youir dress when going up stair cases, hold the pad in better during mense, and allows for privacy. Every lady does not want legs showing, also if you have a leak during menses people cannot see the blood running down your legs.

Look, if my kindergartener can't wear a dress simply because the short sleeve/strap area isn't 2-3 fingers wide and it's a so called distraction, then this is surely a 5 alarm distraction.

ehh went threw this in High School, been there and no way should he be allowed to wear a skirt in High School. HE can wait until he is 18 or out of High School before he wants to take on these giants. There are many decisions that kids in High School feel justified in doing and are STOPPED for good reasons, they ARE NOT ADULTS YET.
