Should Guys Be Allowed to Wear Skirts in School?

Some schools place limits on how much skin a girl can show -- how short her skirt is, etc. -- but Calvert High School in Maryland is trying to flesh out how that applies to one student's unique take on the dress code. Warren Evans, a bisexual student at Calvert High, was suspended for wearing a skirt, and he says it doesn't violate the school's dress code.

Evans told NBC Washington, "I don't think [it violated the dress code]. Why not? It didn’t say anywhere in the code of conduct or dress code that says boys can't dress like girls ... Some people aren't tolerant of that type of thing." Officials have not commented publicly on the situation, but say the dress code is not gender-specific. Some parents have sided with the school, arguing that boys in dresses would be a distraction. Do you think guys should be allowed to wear skirts during school hours?

We are becoming girly men like England did in the past 20 years; the English used to be stately, regal, refined; now they are gays and girly men, and the Muslims are taking them over. We are on the same path.

I am personally nauseated by the thought, BUT, if we are talking about equality and freedom to choose then if women can dress the way men traditionally do, then the man should be able to have the same right.
Now, if I were in charge I would require tasteful unisex uniforms...yes a 'dress code' which if violated, got mom and dad involved.
The purpose of school is to learn, not to be a distraction.

PS he is a 'looker'! ;-)

If it was just a case of wanting equality, then sure, I could understand. But the point of dress codes is to avoid distracting attire, and the outfit below is incredibly distracting...which is what the guy was going for, obviously.

clothing is a expression of style and personality as long as they are dressing respectfully I would love to see men wear more clothing that is designed for women I love to see a strong secure man in a skirt with some killer heels and accessories but as a man not drag all the time. I love to wear all kinds of shoes and shirts and have even wore a antique white table cloth as a sarong with some great strappy white leather sandals a bolero coat with a white mock turtle and wide brimmed red hat. I was sharp in that outfit I would do it again

The Principal should set the Standards for the Dress Code; and the students should adhere to them. Even heavy-use of perform can prove to be such a distraction for studying.

If schools cared about academics half as much as they cared about how students looked or dressed maybe people wouldn't be as ignorant.

dressing is not any issue? i suppose gang related fights in school due to the color of your clothing is not an issue as well? what about other members of the student body being singled out due to attire?

I'm in full support of school uniforms.
Not only is it easy to monitor the students behavior to and form the school and most importantly on school trips.
Uniforms keep the students minds focused on school and not what they are wearing or more importantly to a teen, what others are thinking about what you are wearing or wasting time mocking what some people are wearing.
The haves and have nots are on equal footing, it saves parents money on wardrobes.

Wear whatever you want on weekends, dances, holidays and summer.

Boys should dress as boys and girls should dress as girls; besides, it is a sin to dress like the opposite sex.

    yes, and other clothing sins...

Women may not braid their hair, wear gold, pearls, or expensive clothing.

"Women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array." -- 1 Timothy 2:9
"Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel." -- 1 Peter 3:3

Don't wear garments with wool and linen blended together.

"Thou shalt not wear a garment of divers sorts, as of woollen and linen together." -- Deuteronomy 22:11

A man's hair should be short, and a woman's long.

"Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering." -- 1 Corinthians 11:14-15

God will punish those who wear strange clothes.

"I will punish ... all such as are clothed with strange apparel." -- Zephaniah 1:8

Priests must wear linen, not wool, and may not wear any garment that makes them sweat.

"But the priests ... shall be clothed with linen garments; and no wool shall come upon them. They shall have linen bonnets upon their heads, and shall have linen breeches upon their loins; they shall not gird themselves with any thing that causeth sweat." -- Ezekiel 44:15-18

Saw this one somewhere else on SodaHead, don't recall where-BTW I don't necessarily agree with what he says but it is an interesting counterpoint:

Oh and another small piece of information for anyone thinking cross-dressing or transsexualism is in some way violating some law of God. The only mention in the bible of cross-dressing is a singular passage that says loosely quoted "A man shall not don the garb of a woman, nor should a woman wear a male's apparel." This being said it's actually a mistranslation from when the bible was transferred to English it really says "A man shall not wear the garb of a woman to enter a woman's tent, (fear of rape) and a woman shall not wear a man's garb to enter a temple. (Since women of the day where not allowed in the temples.)

I don't think boys should dress like girls but it's all so screwy now; girls wear sagging pants and behave like males, they have all gone mad. It is bad enough that we have to watch their filthy underwear as their pants are down around their knees but now we have to view their ashy knees and underwear from the opposite end? It's really sick!!!

Everywhere i look women dress like complete sluts, shorts with ass cheaks hanging out...crop tops...and everyone thinks it's fine....protitutes wear more clothing. Yet when a man want's to wear a skirt everyone goes completely nuts? WTF is wrong with you all. There a padded bras for 5 yr old's, even heals...WHY DO TODLERS NEED BOOBS? Seriously...I don't see anything wrong with a man wearing a skirt and if you have an issue...look at yourself..You probably wear more innaproprate clothing...if not i bet your kids do. Keep that in mind before bitch about a man wearing a skirt. If you're going to ban that...Ban little whores wearing shorts with their asses hanging out. Peace.
