But you have every right to this that he really believes we should be like Switzerland, which has the lowest gun crime rate in the world. Just like I get to believe Obama meant exactly what he said when he said, "If you have a successful business-you didn't build that, somebody else did that."

that being said, this is the US, and you have a right to be gun free, just like you have the right to have a gun.

As long as they are given lessons on how to shoot and take care of a weapon - yes - I am a democrat and I actually own several guns - I dont think we should all go around shooting at people but - if someone comes in to the house uninvited - they are going to be sorry - I told the hubby I would aim for the leg if it ever happens - just because I would not want to kill anyone unless I absolutely have to

Good Point - but I don't think I would be able to get over killing someone over a few bucks or a piece of jewelry......I'd have to go for the leg.

Well, the gun I would be using would probably take his leg off- so I dont believe he would be able to do much else beyond lay there and bleed.... :-)

We have a 357 Ruger which when shooting a frozen turkey makes a big mess of it - I can tell by the damage to the turkey - that it would waste a mans leg - we have others but that one would clearly cause an awful lot of damage

True - but I would be worried about shooting a lot of bullets in the house - I would not want to shoot up my house and I really think the sight of the gun would make him run - If I missed he would most likely be heading for the door before I could take another shot :-)

Free citizens must protect themselves.
Police do not protect you from crime, they usually just investigate the crime after it happens and then call someone in to clean up the mess.

It should be a choice, like most everything else. When I got my license to carry, I thought "Great, now I can carry a gun! I soon discovered that toting a pistol around is a real pain in the ass. It has to be concealed, so I tried an ankle holster, but that caused me to walk lopsided, and rubbed against my other foot when I walked, and it showed when I sat down. I put it in my pocket or attached it to the inside of my pants, but it pulled my pants down and stretched my pants out of shape. I didn't even consider a shoulder holster, because I would have to wear a coat everywhere I went. There are just no good options, so I gave up, now I just have one in my car and desk at work. I have 2 small pocket poppers, a .22 and .25 that are OK for short periods of time in a pocket, but they still are relatively heavy, flop around and become uncomfortable. If someone comes up with a good solution, I will file a patent on it for them.

It has to be concealed. Plus, it looks like the barrel is too short for the bullet to develop any real power. It might be loud, but probably not effective.

Not an outright mandate to buy a weapon, just a Switzerland style militia training, and the option of taking the gun home when your service is up.
That way people will have the discipline, the knowledge, and the will to use it when necessary.

Sounds like you want to go back in time to the wild west. We wouldn't have to have cops or anything, just a sheriff. I can see an up side in that, we would be killing each other (kids too) to the point we could get rid of some of the over crowding.
