Should "Gun Free zones" be banned?

that's like advertising "hey! we are defenseless!" and from what i understand,they didn't have school shootings before 1995 before that gun free zone act went into place.

twenty years ago, before my military service, I worked for a couple of years in an extremely poor urban high school in Texas ... I held a Texas CCP at the time - it's lapsed now - and was asked to volunteer to be part of and augment the on-campus security team, along with our JROTC teacher, a retired Navy Senior Chief ... besides the two of us that team consisted of four 60+ year-old retired police officers, one of them a woman, and they were dispersed between five schools in the independant school district ... I checked in with my weapon daily about an hour before classes started, and carried concealed on campus every day ... within a week the entire 7500-student population knew - "Coach is carrying!" ... while there were still rare violent incidents involving student-on-student fights, nothing ever occured in my wing of the school or at any ballgame at which I coached ... the presence of a well-trained armed defender of his students was apparently a deterrent ... I loved my kids - especially the three or four rowdy-but-funny ones that seemed to be part of my classes / baseball team every year, and they knew I was there to protect them as well as to teach

that school no longer exists, the ISD having closed it and put the dwindling student population together with one of the other schools in the district ... it also closed its junior ROTC program ... I don't know for sure, but I believe the new HS is much less safe

Let's see ... Columbine, Virginia Tech, Colorado movie theater, Sandy Hook. All gun free zones. Believe I'd avoid them.

The Colorado shooter may have chosen Cinemark theater because out of all the movie theaters within 20 minutes of his apartment showing the new Batman movie that night, it was the only one where guns were banned. In Colorado, individuals with permits can carry concealed handgun in most malls, stores, movie theaters, and restaurants. But private businesses can determine whether permit holders can carry guns on their private property. Most movie theaters allow permit holders carrying guns. But the Cinemark movie theater was the only one with a sign posted at the theater’s entrance. Gun-free zones are a magnet for those who want to kill many people quickly. Even the most ardent gun control advocate would never put “Gun-Free Zone” signs on their home.

It serves absolutely No purpose!

Gun owners stop an average of 650,000 crimes per year. The Oregon mall shooter killed himself when confronted by an armed citizen. The Sandy Hook shooter killed himself when he heard the police cars.

Citizens arming themselves with weapons they have trained to carry and have permits for STOP violence and save lives.


And Crazy people and criminals will always find a way to do harm, so at least we should have the ability to protect ourselves.

I don't know about "banned". If you have private property and choose to enforce a gun-free environment it's your business. I know, if I didn't own guns, I certainly wouldn't advertise it for all to know.
