Should France Focus on Economy or Social Issues?

Some states in America have adopted more liberal views on "amour" than France. Several states in America have legislated same-sex marriage, while France still maintains the tradition of one man and one woman. France has had a national debate about same-sex marriage, and the country overwhelmingly accepts it, but the government has not yet made it legal -- and won't do so until next year.

France has gained a national consensus on transforming traditional marriage, but has not found consensus on economics. The country suffers high unemployment and a struggling economy. Should France focus its national debate on the economy, austerity, taxes and unemployment? Or are social issues more important than that?

REASON.COM reports:
The European country you probably assumed was already recognizing gay marriage will actually begin recognizing gay marriage (and allow gay couples to adopt) in 2013.

This is a false choice. In the real world, it is not either/or. Governments can and should address both economic issues and social problems.

The French government should focus on free markets and liberty. They should repeal all social engineering laws, get out of healthcare, insurance, employment, power(electric), marriage, school etc... And lower taxes to only pay for the military necessary to defend their homeland. Let the people handle the economy, I will bet money it would recover with 18 months.

The overall cost of health care is far lower in France than in your country, 11% of our GDP, vs. 17% in America. We certainly do NOT want to privatize our public health insurance system.

As a free market libertarian/anarchist I think you would be better off privatizing it, just don't be fooled into thinking ours is privatized. But I don't live in France and can only voice my opinion as an outsider.
