I actually would have preferred an undecided or a "Is it actually necessary" option.

Did you know that English is not the official language of England or Great Britain?

The reasoning is simple, there is no need to enshrine English as the official language into law since all the law is written in English. Meaning that it is by de facto THE official language...

If all law had to be laid down in French or Latin then it might well be necessary to define the official language, yet since since it is not, then it is a bit of any empty issue.

Here is the thing. I think that if you go to a country that speaks a certain language, you should probably attempt to speak the language. But, we have a country that has been a mixing pot for a very long time, and it is a little late to be getting all mad about people not speaking English all the time. Sure, I get pissed having to push "1" for English from time to time, but the country I live in is a melting pot, and we should embrace that.

I would love for this to finally make the ballot. Theree times it was slated to be on it to have been blocked by varrious movements. Last time Palin was part of the movement to block it along with other TP members (she was the most vocal against it going to vote)

There really should be an undecided choice, because most Americans speak english, but the thing is, many immigrants are becoming legal, and it makes this country full of many languages, not just one.

Yes, just because the laws are written in english dosent make it the official language. Laws can be changed. It should be made the official language

If a foreigner is in our country they should speak and write English! I'm tired of pressing 1 for English, 2 for Spanish, 3 for anything else! Fly our flag too! You're on OUR LAND!

We would have more money if we saved on printing foreign signs etc~ in the past immigrants learned English and things were fine~ More and more states are declaring English as the official language~ See Link:

Wrong..... the government spends a small fortune printing and preparing documents in multiple languages.

There once was a time when imigrants wanted their kids to learn english and assimilate into society. Not doing so only keeps people separated.
