Yes, because there needs to be at least one measurable central factor.

yea stop trying to lower the standard , the last thing i want is a slacker or idiot taking up the good colleges. If a student refuse to put an effort into a test than F!! them. I'm a smart guy but some test i slack on than others but i know for the SAT I won't

If they don't have the basics down, they will have a tough time at the collage level. And even though a test isn't always a good gauge of how smart a person truly is, they have to be prepared. We can't keep lowering the standards to push kids through, it won't help them in the long run.

I have to take SAT and ACT and see which test I do better on so I can use it for my admission. I actually don't mind it but there's a standardized test called FCAT that everyone has to take in Florida in order to pass a grade or get a diploma. Besides kids in private schools. That test seems stupid though. That's probably why in Florida you can use ACT/SAT as an alternative if you failed FCAT that way you can still get your diploma. But I really don't mind colleges using SAT and ACT to see where students are at. It's part of life I guess.

How else are you going to have a basic level of understanding what the students aptitude to perform will be? The goal of a university is for students to graduate with a level of certainty that they can learn to a certain level. If they start without a certain aptitude to learn the university will eventually not be able to attract new students.

No, because the test doesn’t reflect what a student has to offer.

If he or she is an artist, I don't see the relevance....

besides, all Colleges care about is if you got the money.

It really depends on the career field I think.

At the age of 32, I was sitting in a roomful of people taking college entrance exams. There was one other man, who was about age 40, and about 35 recent high school graduates.

The other old fart and myself were the only ones who were not required to take remedial education courses, before entering a lowly community college.

Jeff Foxworthy would have had fun with those people !
not smarter than a fifth grader

The test have been modified to the point that they are meaningless...just admit everyone because we know that only 10% are qualified for college to begin with...

At least by having a standardized test score, it proves the kid can at least read. Our colleges have already been so dumbed down that employers have to retrain and reeducate most of their graduates.
The only bright spot is that there are a very few tech schools that take the product of our inadequate high schools and teach them the math and reading skills to hold a trade job.

Yes and they need to do away with Affirmative Action, College admissions should be based on your Qualifications and Abilities not on the Color of your Skin. It Should be the Best and The Brightest, Not some Ratio to make Liberals feel better About themselves as they undermine the Future of this Country with Reverse Discrimination. If we want to keep our place as the World Leader in the Advancement of all technologies We cannot Prevent or Restrict the Best Students from a College Education because they are White or Asian to Make room for a Black or Hispanic Student who is less Qualified.
