Baby have the right, like any other human, of body integrity

Circumcision has been a religious tradition for many years, but has often been the subject of controversy because of the effect it could potentially have on children. On Tuesday, a German court ruled that child circumcision can be classified as "grievous bodily harm." The issue went to court when a 4-year-old boy began bleeding profusely as the result of a circumcision. Naturally, religious communities that practice circumcision are upset.
The court ruled, "[The] fundamental right of the child to bodily integrity outweighed the fundamental rights of the parents ... The religious freedom of the parents and their right to educate their child would not be unacceptably compromised, if they were obliged to wait until the child could himself decide to be circumcised."
In response, the head of the Central Committee of Jews said the ruling is "an unprecedented and dramatic intervention in the right of religious communities to self-determination ... [an] outrageous and insensitive act. Circumcision of newborn boys is a fixed part of the Jewish religion and has been practiced worldwide for centuries."

Please explain how circumcision meets neither of these definitions.
It makes it perfect.
for medical reasons, yes, absolutely.
for ANY other reason, no, not really.
Only because I believe that the right to life free from harm is more important then religious freedom, I think that once the child is old enough to give consent they can make the choice for themselves.
However important it may be to people of jewish faith, circumcision is not a sacrament, unlike a Christian baptism. Circumcision does not affect a Jew's Jewish status. A Jew by birth is a full Jew, even if not circumcised.
and as far as i know there is no real rule based on WHEN the boy must be circumcised, (for medical reasons it is 8 days after birth, but I am sure that for medical reasons that this can be subject to change).
Since then, I have had several NEEDED surgeries due to accidents, but If my folks didn't have it done, I wouldn't of had it done any time in my life. I did have a 'snip-snip' because we had 3 boys and that was enough!!!! YOU must be nuts.
P.S. All three of my sons were circumcised at birth, and they all thank me, now that they are in their 20's.
What's your stand on abortion? I suppose if the mother decides she doesn't want a baby tagging along to her next lover's house, it's ok for her to chuck the kid like she did the last 6 she would have had? But that's not mutilation, that's different.
Genesis 17:10-14
10 This is My covenant, which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you: every male among you shall be circumcised. 11 And you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskin, and it shall be the sign of the covenant between Me and you. 12 And every male among you who is eight days old shall be circumcised throughout your generations, a servant who is born in the house or who is bought with money from any foreigner, who is not of your descendants. 13 A servant who is born in your house or who is bought with your money shall surely be circumcised; thus shall My covenant be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. 14 But an uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, that person shall be cut off from his people; he has broken My covenant.”
About 2300 years ago, the Greeks conquered the Holy Land, and tried to prohibit circumsision, amongst other Jewish practices.
A group of Jews called the Maccabees successfully revolted, and we celebrate their victory in the holiday of Hannukkah.
Hannukkah is a celebration of all things Jewish, among them, circumcision.
Circumcision is a covenant with god (judaism), baptism is sacrament (Christianity).
In short, it's a very very basic part of Judaism. To prohibit circumcision for Jews would be an act of war on Judaism.
There are fundamental Jews much like there are fundamental Christians.
The results of this poll show that even 20% of Jews think that child circumcision should be banned.
