    If Foxx actually stated that in a serious mode (if he's capable of being serious), then the president could privately rebuke such ignorance ... and perhaps he has already done so. I don't see any need for the president to make public displays of such things.

    If Obama offered his opinion about this I must have blinked or was on the phone at the time. I sure didn't hear any response from the news media on it either. If he's really serious about promoting civility in public discourse he should step forward and read the Sister Soulja riot act to his many churlish supporters. And he should do it often to make sure they get the message. I'm not holding my breath.

    Jamie is a citizen of the US and therefore entitled to his First Amendment right to free speech. President Obama can say whatever he wants to Jamie in his personal life role but he cannot limit free speech when he is in the role of President (a 24 hour a day position) because he represents the government. He cannot rebuke Jamie for calling him "our Lord and savior" because that would limit Jamie's freedom of religion. Just because your religion may be upset by Jamie's choice of words does not mean you have the right to use our government to try to silence those words. If these rights are not respected for one there may come a time when they aren't afforded to anyone. Keep your religion out of my goverment!

    You are correct! Freedom of speech is a fundamental right, regardless of whether we agree or not. It is not the government's place to abridge that right.
