An Ottawa man whose obesity played a factor in whether he was fit enough to be a father has lost custody of his children after a judge ruled Wednesday that his two boys would be put up for adoption.

In the judge's ruling, the father was described as a "loving" and "intelligent" father who held deep hatred for the Children's Aid Society of Ottawa.

Fathers have no rights in this country. NONE! The Constitution ceases to exist the second a father steps into a courtroom.

I invite you to read two books, and in my opinion, the last words on the subject. The first is “Taken Into Custody” by Stephen Baskerville. (Or go to Amazon and at least read the Introduction. And “The War Against Boys” by Christina Hoff Sommers. Read the Preface and the first chapter on Amazon.)

Introduction: The Crisis of Fatherhood and Marriage

I advise everybody to read "Taken Into Custody" by Stephen Baskerville. You only THINK you know how out of control government is. I promise you. You don't. I consider myself very, very well informed. I've been an activist and a patriot and a victim of the government. However even I was shocked when I read this book. Go online, and just read the Introduction. If you have the guts, buy the book. I say this because it will be one of the most difficult books you have ever read. It is literally gut wrenching. You think you hate the government now. Believe me when I tell you this-you will go ballistic after reading this book. Just like "The War Against Boys", "One Nation Under Arrest" “Mean Justice” or even "Muslim Mafia". This book strips away the lie that is the so-called dead bea...

This book strips away the lie that is the so-called dead beat dad and exposes the truth to what is the economic genocide being inflicted on dads.

Please believe me when I tell you you will not be able to comprehend what your eyes will reveal to you. You Will Weep. I'm not exaggerating. I'm not being "shrill". Our government and it's employees are no more out of control then in the family law and child support racket. The Constitution DOES NOT EXIST in Americas courtrooms. You probably think you know all there is to know about this unpopular subject. You Do Not.

“Of all the Orwellian phrases most Americans have grown comfortable with, "family law" may be most pernicious -- and what it represents may well be the most invasive and intrusive tyranny now operating in our country.” Stephen Baskerville, Ph.D.

Whether someone is obese or not doesn't change how much or well they take care of there child. My mother is a single parent and obese but she has been an amazing mother and always will be. Whether she loses weight or not is not going to change that. :)

In THIS case yes. The weight was only 1 factor. There was also the factor the man has special needs children who take more dilegent care than he can provid. There is the factor the man has been known to spend hours playing videos rather than tending his children, and teh factor that the man needs to give time to his own care and health before he can give any to two special needs childre,

They better do a sweep across the nation then because this is not right. If this Dad lost his sons due to his weight then there are going to be LOTS of homes minus kids & more in foster care. AND if they are going to yank kids from parents who are overweight, then they better damn well do the same if the parents are skinny, skeleton looking things.

(The ruling notes no signs of physical abuse toward the children and says his home is "suitable," but predicts that it won't be in future be-cause he may need housemates to pay the rent.)

Excuse me what does this have to do w/anything? A prediction is not the fact & so what if he did have to get a roommate. How many people/parents are out here struggling to make it in this economy & have a roommate. Does that make them a bad parent? No.
I could go on & on but I'll spare you.

There is so much wrong with this, I don't know where to begin.

One thing in the article really stood out to me. They say he is too fat to raise his kids. Yet he is on a weight loss regimen and has lost weight, but they are saying parental responsibilities will interfere with his weight loss. That is extremely messed up circular logic.

"Both boys are in foster care, one in a home run by a single mother with five other children." - Yeah, that is so much better than being raised by a fat parent -NOT NOT NOT!

There are a lot of health issues that is caused by obesity ... if a parent cannot monitor their child’s food portions that appears to be a problem ... and perhaps the other parent can do a better job.

They weren't given to the other parent. They were put up for adoption. You don't actually believe that is better for the kids? To be raised by strangers instead of their own parent who happens to be fat?

From the article: "Both boys are in foster care, one in a home run by a single mother with five other children." There is no way that is better for them. They have been separated. How is a single mom with 5 kids better than a fat parent.

Did you read the article? They say he is too fat, but he is on a weight loss regimen and has lost weight, but now they are saying parenting responsibilities would inhibit his weight loss program. What kind of messed up circular logic is that?

They as say he has two special needs childre who have to have a extreme about of supervison and care that the man has to continue to work at his weight program to live that he has been found to have neglicted teh children for a video game and that he doesn't have the resources needed to take care of teh children AND take care of himself. The children have been in foster care for a while they need something perminate.

That is as wrong as it can get. Just because he is obese does not mean he can't take care of his children and provide all the love, clothes, and needs his children have. People put so much into obesity but 95% of all americans would not pass a height and weight tape test for body fat. Also since when did the government get the right to say your too fat to raise a kid. A persons weight is a personal problem not a political one and it is also not the state, or governments place to say you can only weigh this if you plan on having kids. That judge made a ruling that just admitted the united states is a socialistic communist police state government. That is what that ruling means. People in our society have better and more important things to worry about than how much someone weighs that have kids. This society is so worried about everyone else that they fail to realize that someone elses house is nobody's business and people need to mind their own business. It makes you wonder how the Children's Aid Society of Ottawa and their bought off judge would feel if his children get adopted to people who end up abusing them, neglecting them, and mistreating them?

These children were being neglicted according to the article teh man likes to spend hours at a time playing video games, ask any parent with special needs children you don't have time to be selfish like that. His weight was a factor because ONLY because it was in his health interest to maintain a high and active program which meant even less time to care for the children

Having a child taken away from you because of your weight is just simply wrong. Weight shouldn't play a part in deciding how well someone looks after their kids.

But I do think the family need counseling on how to loose weight. It is to do with health and one day they will cost the healthcare system money. Also many surgeons do not want to operate on obese patients and you might not get life saving operations.

However, if their obesity seems to be connected to an inability to be a proper parent, such as in the case of this man, they should lose custody.
I do think parents of obese children (whose obesity cannot be explained by a medical condition) should lose custody.

Not in itself (Imafatassattimes). If it harms the child then yes but for endangerment/neglect. Abuse if it's clear that is the case. If the child is obese and encouraged to over eat, for example, then that shows a sadistic mental problem with the parents. I'd say some could be ignorant but that is not possible in reality.

This man should have the children taken away. They are special needs, and it sounds like he is not handling it. In general, no, kids should not be taken away due to an obese parent. I am responding to this article specifically.
