Should an amendment be passed to mandate that our nation's Attorney General be duly elected by the voters, instead of appointed by whoever is president, to allow the Department of Justice to operate independently from the White House?

We have enough deadlocks in the legislative branch. Why foul up the executive branch, too?

The Department of Justice is only supposed to enforce and uphold the laws that the legislative branch enacts. It should be independent of all branches of government, including the executive branch. Otherwise, it's a farce and mockery of justice with the Attorney General being no more than an alter-ego of the president.

All too often, the Attorney General gets a brief to investigate someone else in the federal government. He needs an independent mandate. Better to elect the AG separately, and preferably with a different group of Electors than the Presidential Electoral College.

I would prefer, in order to preserve the original federalism, to have the attorney general chosen by the College of Attorneys General of the several States.
