Should an amendment be passed to mandate that our nation's Attorney General be duly elected by the voters, instead of appointed by whoever is president, to allow the Department of Justice to operate independently from the White House?

The Department of Justice is only supposed to enforce and uphold the laws that the legislative branch enacts. It should be independent of all branches of government, including the executive branch. Otherwise, it's a farce and mockery of justice with the Attorney General being no more than an alter-ego of the president.reply - Temlakos~POTL~PWCM~JLA~☆ 2012/06/15 18:27:09YES [explain why you think so].+1All too often, the Attorney General gets a brief to investigate someone else in the federal government. He needs an independent mandate. Better to elect the AG separately, and preferably with a different group of Electors than the Presidential Electoral College.reply

+1The same voting format as a senator, with a six year term, elected by popular vote, not the electoral college.reply - Temlako... tncdel 2012/06/15 18:40:49
+1I would prefer, in order to preserve the original federalism, to have the attorney general chosen by the College of Attorneys General of the several States.reply -
+1Each "We the People" should decide. All too often lawyers can't be trusted to do what's right or ethical.reply - Flowers 2012/06/15 18:26:41YES [explain why you think so].+1Should have been that way from the very beginning. There is a lot of things citizens need to change if we want to see this country survive much longer.reply

YES [explain why you think so].Independent election would allow the DOJ to answer to no one but the "We the People."reply
